who did them?

I'm not a hairdresser but I think that you would need to get some ash tones into your hair to tone it down.

If you DIY then just get a light ash blond semi permanent.

If you had it done at a salon go back there and they should fix it free of charge.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 24/04/2009 18:22

If it is not what you asked for, I would go back and ask for them to be redone/toned down.

When I had my hair done last (well time before actually) it was almost luminous! I went back and told them I was not happy and they sorted it out immediately, without additional charge (rightly so!)

If they have only just been done by a hairdresser I would go back and get them to redo.

Otherwise blue shampoo might help - Aveda used to do one called Blue Malva. If they don't they probably have a replacement and it is pretty good for stopping highlights from turning yellow/brassy (which they all seem to do over time).

hya, yes were done at a salon. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. did'nt really want to go back, but if its not going to get any better will do it.

If your hair is really dark, then maybe a 'warmer' shade is what they should have told you to expect [dark hair has to go through orange to get to blonde]

But if you are not dark, then the only thing I can think is your 'warm' shade will tone down anyway and fade after a few washes. I bleach stays the sanme ,but a tint does fade.

If it is not what you asked for then definately go back, they won't mind, they would rather a happy client every time.

Hya, thanks everyone for your advice. I went back to the hairdressers yesterday. Hairdresser suggested putting a toner on. but as I felt I didnt want one flat colour. so I said I would rather try lifting the brassy colour by putting some blond highlights in. so that what happened and now its a mixture of brassy and blond. I'm still not happy. what would happen if I had dark brown low lights put in to break the colours up. would my hair fall out with so much treatments, or would it go a funny colour. please help.

Go back and say you are not happy. I bet they weren't cheap...it's up to the salon to correct the colour, not you.

Ronaldinhio · 26/04/2009 11:50

They haven't used a strong enough peroxide solution or haven't let it develop long enough to lift your highlights from brown to blond hence the orange effect you weren't going for but ended up with.
Also some hairdressers mistake this for "golden"

Unless they were going to use a semi permanent dye over it to darken it down they couldn't have toned the orange out of it properly...(will return with washing)

Now you have more highlights perhaps asking them to use a medium beige semi permanent colour will leave you with something useable until you can find a decent hairdresser.

Did they not use a colour chart?

Did you get your money back, if not keep going back until you are happy

anastasia74 · 26/04/2009 12:07

Yes they used a colour chart. so if they put in dark brown slices of colour to break up brassyness would this probably work ok. just dont want any more disasters and dont trust them as you can imagine. thanks

I just dont want to end up with one tone, after all this messing about.

Ronaldinhio · 26/04/2009 12:16

It depends how orangy the orangy bits are. If they are underdeveloped highlights then darker lowlights are unlikely to help.

I had a semi permanent wash over my hair this time as I thought that the colour was too pale for me and you can still discern highlights but it has evened it out a lot more and made the best of a bad lot

Good luck but ask their best solution and get them to sort it out until you are happy

anastasia74 · 26/04/2009 12:47

thanks ever so much, I'll be back there. fingers crossed for a happy result
