Defintitely not old or fat!!

Make sure you have good quality leggings (not cheap ones you can see through or footless tights). American Apparel do the best ones but Topshop's are okay too, can be worthwhile going for a size up to get good coverage.

Don't wear a tunic/dress any shorter than mid-thigh - the t-shirt and leggings look is best left in the 80's.

If you're going to wear them with pumps at any point it's most flattering to have them stop at the widest part of your calf muscles.

Go for it! I think they're one of those things that you may feel self-concious wearing the first few times but they are so ubiqutious now that they seem to be becoming a wardrobe staple.

intrigued by an eyebrow extension!

MrsMcCluskey · 24/04/2009 08:05

I am about the same size
hate my chunky legs
would never wear leggings
BUT i am 10 yrs older than you!

Sorrento · 24/04/2009 09:46

Isn't the legging thing with a tunic out now, I was wearing that 2 years ago and I'm hardly cutting edge >

ThingOne · 24/04/2009 09:52

I am too old and fat (legged) to wear leggings but you don't sound as if you are.

Bellebelle · 24/04/2009 10:53

Sorrento - don't think it's a look at "the height of fashion" anymore but still loads of people sporting that look. Isn't it often the case though that it takes a couple of years for some things to filter down. Skinny jeans are completely out now according to fashion folk but they still seem to be on every second person I see!

SimpleAsABC · 24/04/2009 10:56

Nope leggings def still in, or def available. Seem to be everywhere at the mo and it's not exactly so striking that you'd be "spotted" for it, i.e. as long as you're not wearing leg warmers i'd say go for it!

Sorrento · 24/04/2009 10:57

My skinny's went the moment they were announced "out" and not a minute too soon, I literally breathed a sign of relief (and oxygen for the first time in a while)

Bellebelle · 24/04/2009 11:03

Sorrento - you sound super-chic! Do you live in London? I always feel like a small town frump whenever I'm there and everyone looks so 'up to the minute'!

SimpleAsABC · 24/04/2009 11:05

I am never "up to the minute" i'd struggle to be classed as "up to the week"!

I'm quite an odd shape and have no choice but to wear what looks ok.

Sorrento · 24/04/2009 11:06

Hell no, i'm sat in my dressing gown in Cheshire lol

ThePellyandMe · 24/04/2009 13:33

I'm a similar size, a bit older though and would never wear leggings in a million years. I really think you need slim legs to get away with them.

I'm a bit boring though, nothing above the knee for me.

blouseenthusiast · 24/04/2009 13:34

Eyebrow extension?????

MammaPiggy · 24/04/2009 13:37

of course you are not too old and fat!!!
you are 28 - young
size 14 - definitely NOT fat

anyway i think leggings are very flattering

Botbot · 24/04/2009 13:39

37, size 18 (decent-ish legs) and wearing leggings right now. Long top, no problem. If I can, you can!

(Live in London, but definitely not super-chic.)

Mind you, I keep eyeing up those shiny wet-look ones 16-year-olds are wearing at the moment and thinking 'I actually quite like those'. That would definitely be a mistake (though it is very unlikely they will ever be available in my size, so I'm probably safe).

SimpleAsABC · 26/04/2009 12:55

Botbot, are you sure you're in London??

I have a friend who has been eying (sp?) then up for a while now, I think she knows she shouldn't but probably will. She's super confident though, she'll inevitably pull it off.

Ronaldinhio · 26/04/2009 13:00

I think you are too old and fat to be wearing leggings

Whatever next?
