Non-toxic, do it yourself hair dye?

Hi there,

I'm a mousy blonde growing out subtle highlights, and I'd really like to brighten things up for the summer. However, besides being expensive, salon dyes tend to make my scalp itch in a way that makes me worry about all those harsh chemicals. I'd like to try a cheap and foolproof home dye kit, but ideally I'd like it to be as 'natural' as possible. Does anyone have any brands to suggest? I'm happy to order online, if necessary...

Thanks!

henna powder, it can be a bit messy as it's a powder and you make it into a paste and put it on your hair for a few hours, it highlights your natural tone rather can colours it but there are different colours and types, it's all natural too. I bought a pack from the body shop once, but found the ones from mediterranean shops better and was told to mix a bit of lemon juice in with it, it worked fine bringing out reddish highlights for me, can't remember the brand though.

Oh, I'd be interested in this! I've seen these, but I'd like to find someone who has tried them successfully, as they're rather expensive.

Funny, I always thought henna only worked on dark hair. But just found this - it's a bit cheaper, too, hoppybird:

My only question is, can I use this over hair that's still growing out highlights from () four months ago? Or will I go green?!

Thanks for that!

But I'm confused by this:

"4. Can I use Natural Colours to lighten my hair?
No, Daniel Field Natural Colours does not contain Ammonia and Hydrogen Peroxide which it means it cannot lighten hair at all during the colouring process. Daniel Field Natural Lights is perfect for adding highlights and you can use it with Natural Colours to create stunning effects. Take a look at our Natural Lights page to see the results."

So if I'm a mousey blonde wanting to go lighter...it won't work?

So how does the henna work, I wonder, without hydrogen peroxide?...
