Ok in fact I am that white I look Blue.

I really do not want to spen another year covering up my legs because I am about them looking so white.
I have tried lots of fake tans (I look streaky and orange)
Had a couple of salon sprays. St tropez the best, but don't have time to keep doing this.

Also What style top neck line.
I am about 5'8 ans size 10/12 still bf so 34E
I hate my arms and shoulders too. I feel very broad so hate showing my arms.(even though everyone says not)
I thought it was about time I just went for it, but not sure what stly is flattering.

get your colours done.

i've got broad shoulders too (alas not a size 10 and 5'8" though) and i don't look good in sleeveless, cap is ok though.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 21/04/2009 20:21

I just feel that all the clothes sites I look at, I see lovely things, but the models are always tanned. I have the feeling that If I tried to wear it I would just look a tramp. IYKWIM
When I open my wardrobe and drawers I just see black, when ever I buy something my dh says before he has seen it 'I bet it is black'
Want to be colourful for a change.
Love the Joules dresses, but not sure if I could carry them off.

go to colour consultant, they will tell you what suits and what doesn't, give you a little kit to take away with you.

it is fantastic, it costs about £60 but has saved me a fortune in unflattering purchases.

v good for confidence too and really easy for shopping, you can discount whole swathes of stuff (for me, anything with yellow is disaster).

getting your colours done means that someone decides what group of colours best suits you. It depends on your skin-tone - yellowish or olive or rosy tinge for instance. Also depends on your eye colour (sprinkled with white, gold etc) and your natural hair colour - ashy, reddish light etc

BThey classify you then as spring (colours like honey and cornflower blue), autumn (safari type green colours and gold/bronze, summer (pastels and cherry red, dove grey or winter (strong clear colours like royal blue, scarlet and icy colours just white with a dash of colour like icy green or pink)

Hard to judge for yourself unless you've very clearly one or the other, have a look at one of those books in a bookstore to get the idea.

I'm pale-skinned and apparently somewhere between spring and winter. I can wear strong coolours including black but not at all brownish, beige or pastel colurs. What suits me best are those icy shades but hard to find.

Thanks, how fo I go about finding one of these then, do I just google and enter my postcode or something??

Think It would save me a fortune, I buy stuff and it just sits there with tags on.
I also need to stop buying an item and never getting anything to go with it.

You sound just like me - same size (tho' my boobs have thankfully shrunk a bit since stopping bfeeding) and identical colouring

I spent my commute to work this morning fretting about much longer I could get away with wearing tights before it got too hot. FWIW, I wear a lot of navy, pale blue and grey with the occasional fuschia/purple 'accent'. Think getting your colours done can work wonders. It liberated my mum from a navy blue, spotty dressed rut (and cost my dad a fortune!)

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 21/04/2009 22:29

Thanks so much for all your help.
greenpeas when I was younger My family used to tease me as I lived in black tights, even when warm.
I also went abroad and took jeans and probably doc martins when I was about 16.

Also mum constantly used to say I was built like a russuin shot putter or amazon

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 21/04/2009 22:30

Russian obviously.

None which is why i keep st tropez going single handedly

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 21/04/2009 22:54

Do you do it yorself then?? I just dont seem to have the patience, and I always streak.
I exfoiliate, use polisher, apply carefully.
But I would never dare apply anywhere other than legs myself so not much point, blue face and arms and tanned legs. Can you imagine....

I use the everyday spray and don't moisturise befor as it makes it slide around and is too sticky. This one dries instantly and I shower in the morning and moisturise then. This way I wear most colours In winter I am pale(r) and wear a lot of green grey and navy and white

ZZZen · 23/04/2009 09:16

oh thanks hanaflower, see I'm behind the times!

JustCallMeGoat · 23/04/2009 09:21

what colour are you eyes and hair?

i suit strong colours but not orange or yellow.

beige, cream, white, taupe all make me look middle aged and frumpy.

lou33 · 23/04/2009 09:24

i use a cheaper version of fake tan, the rimmel sunshimmer bronzing mousse

really really easy to put on, doesnt streak , quick drying, and washes off with soap and water

my friend likes her sunbeds and she always thinks i have been on one when i put it on

i also find paler colours make me look more drained, the stronger ones are better for me

ThingOne · 23/04/2009 09:43

I'm pale too - a redhead with blue eyes. I had my colours done at a charity event years ago and surprise, surprise, she advised autumnal colours - tomato red, soft browns, cream not white. I didn't think all the colours suited me but it's certainly true that most bright "artificial" colours look pants on me.

Solid blocks of pale are very draining for me too but can work, for example, if I wear a scarf in the right colours between face and top.

Remember that shops have very odd lighting and clothes will look different in natural light. Then again, they'll look different at night too, so you need to think about when you'll wear them.

Legs? It's a nightmare. I wear knee boots all winter. I have become very good at doing fake tan but most of the time I just embrace my inner milk bottle. After all, it's my natural colour .

slug · 23/04/2009 10:01

I'm the 'so pale I'm almost blue' skin type as well. I have reddish brown hair and blue eyes. Basically I'm your average pale skinned Celt.

After years of worrying about my skin colour I have given in and embraced my paleness. Fake tan on me just looks wrong and unnatural anyway. I also go for strong colours, deep blues, reds and greens. Orange and yellow just make me look ill. For inspiration, try looking at Nicola from Girl's Aloud (Slightly embarrased emoticon for knowing who she is at my advanced age), Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett. They don't bother with fake tan because it looks wrong on them as well.

Vamonos · 23/04/2009 10:08

It's also very difficult to get fake tan to look right if you're very dark haired but very pale skinned 'winter' type. The 'oranginess' just doesn't work as a colour (leaving aside the streaking...). As a 'winter' you wouldn't wear orange as a colour as it just wouldn't suit you.

It's hard to cope with milk-bottle legs in the summer! I find it works best to wear longer floaty skirts in colours like mid-blues and violets, and paint my toenails.

Brightly coloured flip-flops and sandals look best (in skin flattering tones). And avoid solid black skirts and shoes (although a pretty pattern featuring black can look okay).

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 23/04/2009 13:35

justcallmegoat my eyes are blue, my hair is mixed shades of blonde and brown.
I need to learn to accept that I am just pale and thats it.
Dh says If I always cover legs up I wil never get colour. I am just not the type to sunbathe.(not that you can with dcs) I get bored and burn.

So long skirts it is then.
I love Red is that a no go then???

OP posts:
lou33 · 23/04/2009 16:09

depends on the shade of red, i am ok with deep blue reds, it suits me i think, but not orange reds
