Interview at a Law Firm

Sorrento · 21/04/2009 11:46

I am guessing my Karen Millen suits will not do
My plan was to head for Austin Reed and Hobbs, but I have enormous plates of meat, where can I find conservation shoes in a size 9 ????

Any other tips very welcome, they want polished apparently arghhhh

What kind of law firm? What kind of job?

EldonAve · 21/04/2009 11:52

Jigsaw also good for suits

BonsoirAnna · 21/04/2009 11:53

MaxMara is good for work clothes.

blouseenthusiast · 21/04/2009 11:56

Austin Reed I don't like and Hobbs can be good but can soemtimes be a bit retro / girly. Jigsaw suits are absolutely fine and last well without being at the priciest end of spectrum

Sorrento · 21/04/2009 11:56

Well it's inhouse recruitment for them, so not facing M'Lord every day but it would seem there would be a bit of popping over to court, or the surrounding wine bars to interview people, sign paper work etc.
I know some solicitors that look like they've been pulled through a hedge backwards but I wanted to err on the side of caution.
I've found a brand new Jigsaw suit on ebay but it's dark brown and trousers and DH says it's not right

I work in Legal Recruitment, I think trouser suits are fine, and brown would be OK.
Just something smart and not outlandish.

blouseenthusiast · 21/04/2009 12:03

Link?

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 21/04/2009 12:08

trouser suit fine.
black / grey / navy better than brown.... don't ask me why, but for law brown is just not right... (a barrister would never wear brown to court).

suit / smart plain shirt / low heels / discreet accessiories (nothing jangly) / make up if you wear it but not too much.... ie, smart.

good luck!

MarthaFarquhar · 21/04/2009 12:11

office do a size nine

Sorrento · 21/04/2009 12:12

I think that's what DH was getting at, thank god trousers are ok, I prefer skirts but cannot find one I like that won't flash my knickers.

Am going to give the ebay one a miss which is a shame because it would be lovely on me too as I'm an Autumn

although that was not the link I was viewing. you can search the site by size - the mid heels section had some office friendly gear.

Lizzylou · 21/04/2009 12:14

Hmm, I suppose Brown not for the interview, but if you got the job then the brown suit would be OK to wear for work.
I meet with Legal HR regularly and they don't dress super conservative tbh.

Sorrento · 21/04/2009 12:27

What do think of this www.hobbs.co.uk/index.cfm?page=1226
Ironically I would have worn that in my 20's when I wanted to be taken seriously lol now I'd feel very strange in it, but need to be taken seriously and be given the blooming job

georgiemum · 21/04/2009 12:29

Good luck! fingers crossed for you.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 21/04/2009 12:32

which hobbs thing are you linking to??

i think most things from hobbs if their cut suits you would be fine.... they do some good trouser suits and shirts that would be good....

Sorrento · 21/04/2009 12:38

Ah does it not link to the jacket ?
Well it's a single breasted navy pin stripe jacket with matching trousers, in the sale too always a bonus.
I think that should be ok with a pink shirt and pearls, just need to find shoes now.
Thank you for the good wishes, I need all the luck I can get

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 21/04/2009 12:45

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 21/04/2009 13:23
