Help me smarten my scruff bag husband up!

He looks so nice for work - tall & dark and wears pin strip suits and double cuff shirts - BUT is a total scruff bag at home - jeans and un-ironed old tshirt and a hoody - he is approaching his mid 40s!!

I would love to smarten him up a bit, but he is a funny size - 6ft plus - takes a 34" leg and is a 36-38" waist so he gets really disillusioned when we go to the shops as nothing is in his size.

What I think he needs are some nice really good fitting jeans (the ones he has tend to be a bit saggy bum ish) and some smart tops but not tight one - he has a bit of a belly - not really painting a good picture here am I!!

Has anyone got any ideas??

I was in GAP at the weekend on a smarten up my dh mission, and I have to say nearly ALL the jeans on the sale rail were your dh's size!

And lots of nice casual soft shirts that I persuaded dh to buy, to wear either under a v neck or open over a tee shirt.

Gap have loads of jeans, T-shirts and jumpers in the sale at the mo. Decent quality and very cheap.

My dp is by no means 'smart' but is better than he used to be. He lives in Gap jeans, t-shirts and jumpers and shirts from Monsoon on the whole.

I did notice in Debenhams the other day that there were some very nice Ben Sherman t-shirts, sort of funky but not too 'young' iirc.

And here is a voucher for 30% off gap this week from the 23rd April . Look like I will be going shopping!

Thanks

What does he think? My DH is a scruffbag but he has to wear saftey gear at work and if he out having fun he is invariably in bikeleathers. He has suits and shirts for when needed but when he is at home relaxing he is just in jeans and t shirts.
He could look smarter at home but he is 31 and this is what he is comfy in, I would be furious if he told me I needed to dress differently so I respect his decision to wear what he wants.

We are also on a mission at the moment. Did you know that M&S allegedly have expanded their Tall range, at least online?

Samantha28 · 20/04/2009 22:34

don't be ridiculous, jackbauer, if her DH wanted to choose his own clothes he shouldn't have got married

sorry, scotgirl, i have no answers but am on a similar mission

JackBauer · 20/04/2009 22:44

I was just asking!
Seriously though, think about it the other way. Your DH thinks you look scruffy and says he is buying new clothes for you. I mean, I'd be pissed in that situation.

Samantha28 · 20/04/2009 22:52

I don't think of it that way. I do the clothes shopping in my house. DH gets to buy new phones, computers, TV etc, techy stuff and tools. Its old fashioned I know but it works for us

So how can I sort him out? He is also hard to buy for as....ahem...a little plump. He doesn't wear jeans or t shirts

mrsmaidamess · 20/04/2009 23:05

I tell my dh when he looks a sight.

Jewelsandgems · 21/04/2009 09:41

Look there is a good chance when you have found yout DH some clothes in his size, and he has lots of things to wear, he will actually be happy about it and more confidant in casual clothes. Maybe ordr some stuff online from white stuff or something, have the stuff sent to your house, and let him try on a few things (instead of dragging him around the shops)
