OFGS- what size bra am I?

LaTrucha · 20/04/2009 16:30

I have just looked on 4 wwebsites and come up with 4 different sizes.

I am still bf. My bf bras are a 36F. I was recently measured and have gone down to a 36E. I just bought a 36E and it's too big.

I've measured myself and my underbust measures a little ovr 32 inches and my overbust is 36 inches.

I'm all over the place. What size shall I try?

I was a 32D, pre-pregnancy if that helps at all!

32D I reckon.

Go to a shop, try on various different styles in 32D and 32E. You really need to try them on.

norktasticninja · 20/04/2009 16:37

Well, according to the measurements you've given you are a 32D now. Most websites (and an awful lot of shops) spout nonsense about bra sizes TBH.

Your underbust measurement is your band size and each inch difference between your band size and your overbust measurement is a bra size, simple as that.

norktasticninja · 20/04/2009 16:38

...each inch difference between your band size and your overbust measurement is a cup size, simple as that...

All women are different sizes in different shops. I was sized in an independent lingerie shop, where she doesn't believe in using a tape measure as all bras are different. It's a case of looking at what size bra you are in at the mo and evaluating. If it rides up at the back you need to go down a back size. If the bit inbetween the cups at the front doesn't lie flat against your skin, you need to go up a cup size, same thing if you have a bulge over the cups.
It souns to me like you should be in something like a 34F or a 32G.
Your ribcage expands when pregnant so you may not ever get back to 32 back size but try it anyway.
Also FYI, not sure where you buy bras, but M&S come up big, and La Senza come up small, but to be honest if you've got big boobs I wouldn't touch eithe with a barge pole. Try Bravissimo or Leia - they have good service and great with returns.
Hope that all helps and makes sense!

LaTrucha · 20/04/2009 17:11

ok. 32/34 d/f, poss G. At least there aren't many choices in design in bf bras!

I'm going to the local department store tomorrow and will try a few.

I got fed up when the M+S one put me at something like a 38c because they're smaller band sizes didn't go up very far in cup size (on the website). I KNOW I'm not that!

Those measurements suggest that your start in a 32D and then try either a 34D or a 32DD and see which of those is most comfortable.

LaTrucha · 20/04/2009 18:20

Thanks. I had an image of me with every bra in the shop!

I would say a 32D too but...

if the band measurement is 'a little over 32' you may find a 32 too tight and restrictive (esp if you have been wearing non-wired comfy bf bras for a while).
So try a 34 but then you have gone up a band size so you should go down a cup size, so a 34C.

(Piratecat - fount of all bra knowledge needed again! )

Try Bravado bf bras, i used them and they are v comfy and crossover sizes so aren't so specific and last longer as you deflate drop feeds

LaTrucha · 20/04/2009 21:03

Thanks JKS - I can't quite believeI will have gone down to a 32 again as I've still got 10 kilos to lose. Not sure I like the idea of being a C cup though. Silly eh?

Hey i'm heading to an A cup again the way i'm going!
mind you i was an A before all this kid stuff

mooseloose · 20/04/2009 21:15

I was measured in bravissimo as a 32GG. There is no way on earth a 32 from m&s would do up on me! I've never been back to them!

LaTrucha · 20/04/2009 22:26

I did buy a feeding bra from M+S. It's a joke. It's going straight back.

OP posts:
LaTrucha · 21/04/2009 21:28

Royce feeding bras are fab. I always thought they'd be rubbish. They actually give you some shape and two distinct breasts. They do come up a bit big in the cup though.

Oh ... and the answer the answer seems to be 34F. Who got it right ....

pinkcorsage - you are the WINNER! I wish I had a goldfish to give you.

I just find this so tricky..

my under bust measurement is about 30 inches, yet I have just loosened my M&S 34"B cup as it is too tight around my back. Help!

mrspnut · 22/04/2009 07:17

But what's the difference between your two sizes because it is probably that you are wearing a cup size that's too small.

howtotellmum · 22/04/2009 08:11

my over the bust measurement is 34-35 depending on whether my nipples stick out or not- cold tape measure!

Thatw ould mean I was about a 32 C or 32 D I suppose, which seems crazy- all the 32s I have tried seem to crush my back to the point that I cannot breathe!

Off to R&Peller maybe!

RamblingRosa · 22/04/2009 08:47

I was a 30E/32D before pg and went up to a 30G while pg and breastfeeding. Slowly went down while breastfeeding. I think I was a 32E towards the end. Down to a 30DD now.

Not sure if that helps.

Like others have said, sounds like you should be sticking with a 32 band measurement if that's what you're measuring round your ribcage. Then it's just a case of trying a few different cup sizes on to see how they fit.

Avoid M&S like the plague.
Bravissimo have got some new bf styles in. My favourite when breastfeeding was Hot Milk bras. You can get them on figleaves and on ASOS. They're fantastic. Elle Macpherson does some pretty ones too that do the job.

Actually, not long before I stopped breastfeeding I bought one of these. It was really easy to drop the cup down because of the multiway straps and it was nice having a bra that actually gave me some support.
