I need fairly urgent advice re industrial corsets or other magic undies...

need to be seen in front of about a hundred people in a month's time wearing a very pretty wedding dress.

I've lost 4 stones since having DS2 8 months ago, but I've changed shape into something resembling a toffee apple and need something to squash in my baby belly.

I tried Trinny and Susannah's magic pants, they were crap and had some weird ridge around the middle which emphasised the problem. I need something hardcore, and time is of the essence.

Can anyone suggest what I can get and from where?

what is your budget? basically , that is what it all boils down do.
congratulations on the weight loss. that is amazing. have you toned up at the same time? or is their a lot of excess skin?
i think, you should go to a proper underwear shop, like the rigby and peller in london and get their advice on what is available, and appropriate. be prepared to pay though...

having said that, i bough tsome lovely stuff from figleaves a few years ago. much better than the marks magic pants, i;ll try and find the link

stitchtime · 15/04/2009 18:53

something like this

stitchtime · 15/04/2009 18:53

or, if you want to change shape, i think a proper old fashioned corset type thing is more apppropriate

CarGirl · 15/04/2009 18:54

someone recommended this the other week on here

I've tried quite a few things (magic pants, all-in-ones, etc) and I have an apple belly like you describe. The best thing I've tried by far is this.

The long thingies that start below your boobs and go down to shorts wasn't much cop 1) because I had to wee through a gape and it was a complete mare 2) the top kept rolling down.

The waist cincher stayed put and is hard-core but comfy once you're used to it. Highly recommended.

Arh, great minds, CarGirl

The link stitchtime gave was the thing I had a wee-mare in

bohemianbint · 15/04/2009 20:28

fantastic - that waist cincher looks good, does it really work? Failing that, where do you go to get an old fashioned corset (in Manchester, ideally!)

How about this

itchyandscratchy · 15/04/2009 22:08

Well it's not going to make the blubber completely disappear! But it does give you a waist where you may previously not have had one and it improves your posture so you stand straight and look smoother and slimmer

ravenAK · 15/04/2009 22:18

If you fancy something a bit more in your face (maybe not if it's to go under dress?) then Vollers do fabulous & effective corsets. Snobz are a bit cheaper but not quite as good.

CarGirl · 15/04/2009 22:22

I found this too

www.victoriawhiteland.com/the-everyday-corset-p-26.html

you need to scroll down a bit though

bohemianbint · 16/04/2009 19:56

thank you - am investigating the figleaves and that last link there cargirl.

What size are you? We've got Vollers cinchers half price til Monday, and I could post it to you if you tell me what you need? They are quite dark though rather than white. They'd be around seventy quid.

bohemianbint · 16/04/2009 20:58

Oooh, BitOfFun - that's really good of you! It's a white dress though, would a dark thing work underneath?

BitofFunh, do you have a link to these half price Vollers cinchers of which you speak...payday yesterday...Whitby Goth Weekend next week...any excuse!

BitOfFun · 16/04/2009 21:13

Let me find out and get back...my email is Bitoffun 1 @ yahoo dot co dot uk if you drop me a line?

BitOfFun · 16/04/2009 21:17

Right, have called the boss and our site (only just up) is secretdraweronline.co.uk but she isn't sure if all the corset stuff is on there yet- take a looksee and let me know?

ravenAK · 16/04/2009 22:01

Corsets aren't up yet, no.

it's just I know a few people on the WGW forum who might be up for a half-price Vollers - was going to post the link there - not to worry!

BitOfFun · 16/04/2009 22:08

Well, if you get in touch I can give you a buzz with what we've got tomorrow, sizes, colours etc- I'm not in work, but I'll jot the details down over the phone (I can't remember off the top of my head) and I can let you know. I'm sure there's a way

MamaHobgoblin · 17/04/2009 12:39

Do you already have the very pretty wedding dress? Because you could consider wearing one with a real, fierce corset built in, as a feature. Not the wussy, plastic-boned 'corset' frocks you can get in wedding stores, but the real deal. There are lots of corsetieres (sp?) out there who make bespoke wedding dresses, and not all of them work out as expensive as you'd think. It was 4 years ago, but I was getting quotes of c.£500 up for an entirely bespoke corset wedding dress from independent makers.

Here is the dressmaker I ended up using. A detail from mine is on there somewhere but can't find it (beaded ivy leaves on bluey-green silk). Looks like she's put her prices up big time, but there are others making similar styles.

MamaHobgoblin · 17/04/2009 12:40

Should also point out that she, and others, will make corsets to order as underwear too. (No, I'm not on commission from her. In fact, she was a bit prickly to work with, but her dresses are to die for and she's very talented.)

steamedtreaclesponge · 17/04/2009 12:49

Steel-boned corsets are definitely the way to go - there's quite a good selection here

bohemianbint · 22/04/2009 19:05

Just to let you know - tried the figleaves and the next one, and strangely the one from Next (which is half the price!) is much better and does the job nicely. The other proper ones look fabulous as well, but I just don't have the time to go and try.

So hurray! Thank you for your help!
