How much do I need to dress up for a christening?

I have no money to buy anything new and tbh, have only been to a couple of church christenings.
Tea afterwards being served in quite a grand hotel.

Is a linen skirt, top, fitted cardie and boots sort of combo ok?

It's next weekend so weather could be anything.

I know, I know, style threads are no fun unless you can spend other people's money for them,
but still, somebody help me out here please!

I think that sounds just right.

There was an enormous range of outfits on show at the latest Christening I went to. We went to a buffet/party in a nice restaurant after the service and things ran from Mother of the Bride level (the glamorous grans in hats and the whole shebang) to one woman who wore virtually nothing and looked a bit out of place during the service (not to say chilly). However, most women wore something along the lines of your outfit, so I am sure you'll be fine.

Have a lovely time.

If a skirt and cardi combo is good enough for Michelle Obama to have brekkie in at number 10, I'm sure you will look just right at the Christening...

Skirt and cardi combo great but I would replace the boots with shoes (or sandals if it ends up warm). .

I love linen but it crumples so quickly. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable in a "grand hotel" in a wrinkled skirt. Also not sure about the boots. Fine for a Winter/Autumn gathering, especially in a draughty old church but maybe not right for Spring.

Could you stretch to buying a new outfit if it wasn't too dressy and you could gets lots on wear out of it during the coming months?

What about this £12.00 dress with this £10.00 cardie over the top if you're not keen on having your arms on show or the weather isn't brilliant. The dress also comes in purple as does the cardie. A whole outfit for £22.00.

Add some heels like these or these for a dressed up look or flats for a trip to the shops/park.

Amandoh - that is fantastic, but alas, no Peacocks here.

And when I say no money, i mean no money!

I'm not sure how we're going to provide a gift, let alone petrol up there....

the skirt is old Monsoon, blue, green and cream wavy spirals, which I will wear with a cheapy green H&M short sleeved shirt and a blue wrap cardi.
