I bought a long gypsy skirt to cover horrible legs in hot weather (I'm OK to wear short skirts with tights)Cheap from Primark so no great loss but have only worn it once and it made me look huge (I'm not really huge but large tummy is better hidden by straighter styles I think. Sigh, I liked it too (even though almost identical to one I had in 1975)
maybe I will wear it around the house in v hot weather as it shd be lovely and cool. But passe already, I agree with Cod

The problem with gypsy skirts is that all that extra material is a gift in a good wind, as I found out to my cost last week when I flashed my arse at a row of standing traffic.

I love gypsy skirts, I have loads of them. Hate it when people wear them with a floaty gypsy top though, they need a tight vest top or you just look like you're trying to hide something.

Don't diss gypsy skirts it's the last vaguely stylish thing we pregnant ladies can cling to this summer...

I love gypsy skirts.. and certain ponchos.. (not all and not together!). I too think the skirts hide a multitude of sins.. and looks nice on women large, small, young or old witha bit of thought to style and colour. But I am hardly of the Trinny/Suzannah ilk so that do I know!!

My mom has had a poncho a la Julie Christie in 'Don't Look Now', and I absolutely ADORE it. It's skims just about the knee, and is a gorgeous, thick, chocolate brown pure Alpaca wool and has a generous hood. It's more cape like. She got it in Peru in the mid-70s and it is timeless. But the cheap crocheted things are hideous.

Gypsy skirts. No, I just can't go there. I have thighs and hips.

I liked my poncho in the winter too, looked great with jeans and boots and was easy to throw on now & then.

I also like gypsy skirts with flip flops, nothing wrong with that look at all imo.

But then I was one of the few who likes cropped combat style trousers - i was on my own (almost) with that one.

I guess it's a personal thing Some people might like the cheap crocheted ones and look nice in them too. I like mine.. although I may well look hideous in it for all I know

i wouldn't let my daughter get a poncho in winter as ithought they looked cheap !!

however i have a brown gypsy skirt i bought a couple of months ago. i love it as i can feel my kind of grungy feminin without trying to be avril lavign

am talking about the croched type. i would like to add hurredly that noddy was wearing one of those audrey hepburn esq ponchos at a meet once, which i thought was beautiful

I have a fleece poncho which is an essential when camping. Its like wearing a blanket, marvellous.

thank goodness for gypsy skirts (especially long ones). It's one of the only ways I can cover up my unattractive legs (more accurately, my granny knees) and still feel cool in summer. Far more flattering than a pair of loose fit trousers which for some reason always manage to make my legs look twice their size.

gypsy skirts are great. i have always loved them since i was about 18, but never wore them a s too scared to buck the trends and wanted to be a sheep and follow the fashions like everyone else. this summer is going to be great for me gypsy skirts in all lengths and colours, vest tops (must start those upper arm exercises), vintage t's, flip flops or wedges ans it will be the most comfortable summer i have had for years.
must admit though the traffic at Worthing got an eyeful of my knickers 2 weekends ago!

alothough i must admit as nice as victoris beckham looks in her gypsy skirts (although slightly over done imo), i was very disappointed to see her wearing them as i try to avoid trend set by VB!

yes , you can find nice ponchos. But they HAVE to be knee-length or v good quality. Also, with big boobs/shoulders, can double the size of your top half if you're not careful.

gypsy skirts are fine, and good for airing the nether regions. HOwever, I , like fruitful, have forgotten how to wear a skirt.

Must say - pashminas were out in force on the trip to work this morning - must have counted 6 or 7!

I bought one but decided wrong side of 40 and wrong shape: looked silly so i took it back and am #10 in credit now!
