Dry body brushing

Hi I've started doing this for the past 3 nights and it's really good, skin feels really soft and all that, but I'm concerned that the bristles are too soft? I got it from Boots and it's made of wood and the bristles are made of cactus.
How firm does it need to be

I have been doing this on and off for years and I think that you are best with a soft brush, if you are managing to do it everyday harder bristles could dry your skin out. I've always found that the body shop do great brushes for this.

Body brushing is really to give your lymphatic system a boost and the soft skin is a pleasant side effect.

Ah yes!! That's primarily why I'm doing it to be honest, I don't care about the soft skin at all really, I just wasn't sure how hard it needed to be.
It sounds like my brush is okay then because it's soft but still firmish to use on skin. It's just that in the body shop they had the one that I have and a much firmer one.
I suppose it still needs to be a pleasant experience as opposed to a painful one.

You need to be very gentle as you can actually damage capilleries with too-firm brushing. Your lymphatic system will respond to very soft brushing - if you have manual lymphatic drainage massage the masseur will be light as a feather.

Oh good, I'm doing it right then!!
Cheers, off to do that now!!

do you do it all over your body?

could you do it in the morning or is it key to do in the evening?

Bellebelle · 13/04/2009 22:50

Don't think it matters what time of day you do it (?) I tend to do it before a shower or bath. I start with my feet and work up the way, you're meant to make sure that the strokes are always going towards your heart so you would brush up your legs but down the back of your neck iyswim. You don't do anywhere tender so no breasts or face although I think you can get special brushes for the facial area. You start very gentle and build up how firm you do it over days/weeks as you get used to the sensation. Totally worth doing I think.

I read in a book that you should brush towards the heart like you said BelleBelle but in a circular motion. They also said to brush all over including breasts (not nipple can you imagine how excruciating) ears and the underarm area, obviously not too hard, but I don't dare to do that. I tried the ears very gently but it seemed a random thing to do .
Apparently after doing that, if you rinse your skin it's enough, you shouldn't have to use soap a part from on the areas that sweat most (I suppose they refer to your Foofoo)
