Coconut oil for shiny hair?!

apparently caprice uses it once a week by applying to her hair, coveting with clingfilm for the night then washes off in the morning. she's saying it's great.

so me being me, i went and bought some today and daren't use it now!

anyone has any experience of this???

yes when I was pregnant. It was disgusting the smell of the woman in front of me wearing it made me puke. I don't suppose that that's what you meant though was it?

not quite, just wondering if anyone treats their hair with it and can say it makes any difference.

i have to say the stuff looks like lard with coconut scent in a jar!

branster, the older generation used it a lot..i should add that they are indian women....to me, it reminded me of greasy hair...didnt look shiny as such

maybe if you washed it off and shampooed it in the morning after it being left over night might make her shiney, but i do think that if you just apply it on then it looks greasy imo

but i do love the smell of coconut mmmm

A lot of arabian women use it as well - to tame as wella s make shiny and they use it on their babies too!!!!

i'll have to try it during one day when i don't have to leave the house, don't fancy going to bed with clingfilm on my head!

hi branster, used to use this on my hair when it was going through a difficult phase.
you use it like a hot oil treatment in that you wash it off after.
heat a bit up and when it is all runny place on hair. you can wrap cling film or get a heat cap, put a dry towel over film/cap to keep heat in. you can leave on for as long as you like.
rinse off as you would a normal hot oil treatment. best not to shampoo after although you could put a conditioner on if you really dont like smell/feeling.
it really does work for shinnyness(is that even a word?) and also of you have dreaded frizzes. also good on curly hair.

as it happens, I've just gone and done it so now my hair is covered in this stuff (did think of warming it up a bit beforehand otherwise you can't spread it).

now i'll wait and see how it looks tonight after washing! Thanks for tip re shampoo!

my dog just eaten some of this oil from the bowl i had in the bathroom! stupid me, i forgot to take it away whilst going dowsntairs! i wonder if the dog's coat will be all shiny too now??!!

i can report that after spending 4 hours under clingfilm my hair is no shinier than normal. so there!
it may be that hair cannot posibly get any shinier maybe?!
can't believe i've spent 10 quid on a jar of coconut smelling lard that does nothing for me. will feed it to the dog now! he seems to like the taste!

branster, did you blow dry your hair? £10!! you are kidding!! was it the natural coconut oil that comes in a jar from food shops? it's between 90p and 1.50!!

champs, i bought it from hollands & barrets, it comes in a huge tub and it says it's the real thing.
no i didn't blow dry it. i hardly ever use a hair dryer. would that make any difference?

the only good thing i've noticed was this morning after waking up, it was very easy to brush my hair. not one tangle. so there must be some benefits!

Branster, does make a difference but you should still get the benefits. Is a good detangler.
anyway you'd better not feed to doggie if you paid that much!!
Wish you'd have posted before you brought it as I could've told you where to get it and saved you 9quid!!! Still can't believe that!! is the ingrediets just coconut oil or have they added stuff to it?

I am interested in trying this where do you get it from and is just called coconut oil?

AngelCakeUmm, I bought mine in the holland & barrett shop (they have a site too www.hollandand barrett.com)
the ingredients are 'Coconut oil' ONLY! it comes in a 453g/16oz, white plastic tub with a brown label. Hopefully champs will be a able to advise on where to get it cheaper.

i think i might use it once a month and at the size of it will probably last me until I retire

tried to look for it on site to see if was same but couldn't find it.

AngelCakeUmm -- if you just go into a food shop they have it in a jar. some supermarkets sell it in the food section.

Hold on. Have you seen the condition of Caprice's hair? The word straw comes to mind. I know that Indian people use oil on their hair and it's lovely glossy hair. I don't think it's olive though. Is it coconut? Can't remember.

My friend uses almond oil, she is pakistani and has beautiful thick dark glossy hair.

She applies it once a week leaves it on overnight and then washes out the next morning.

I put a tiny dab of Coconut oil on the ends of my wavy hair and it stops it getting frizzy without any greasiness.
