Anyone switched from professional to home hair colouring?

With the economy the way it is, I need to cut back. For many years, I have had my hair professionally coloured -- I used to have blonde highlights but now have just about worn out semi-permanent brown, which is quite close to my blonde-as-a-child-turned-mousy-brown-with-a-bit-of-grey natural colour. Now I want to go a bit lighter again, like a honey blonde, but I want to start doing it at home (with DH's help) to save loads of money.

Has anyone made this switch and been happy? I bought some L'Oreal Excellence Creme natural blonde colour but am getting nervous. Yikes.

I always do my own hair and it always turns out ok. I did have it done once at the hairdressers but I thought they didn't do it as well as I normally do. They left dye on my face and it seemed to wash out quicker.
I arm myself with lots of old towels in case of spills, a good book to read while I'm waiting and some cotton woo and hairspray to wipe off the drips on my skin.
Good luck, and well done for getting DH to help. I do mine on my own (but have to help DH if he does his, which he has once or twice)

Hello, I also used to spend a fortune on highlights until 3 months ago. Now I do my own, and as it happens I also use Excellence Natural Blonde! I love it, it comes out very well and looks very natural. Plus it only costs c £7! Good luck!!

I do my own now and I prefer it.
