without using bleach first? clicky (on the left).

Am considering it, I used to have pillarbox red hair as a youth but had to bleach my hair first which I really wouldn't want to do now!

Have been using semi-permanent dyes for the last couple of years, to dye my hair a rich dark brown. Natural hair colour is mousy brown.

Would I be able to do this do you think, and how?

That kind of darkred/brown is fairly easy - any of the mainstream hair dyes will work OK. The only problem is that red fades really fast, so you have to redye to top up the colour rather than just the roots. I never needed to use bleach when I did it that colour, and my hair is naturally darker than mousey. (strangely enough do use bleach now as I have pillarbox red bits - I'm obviously regressing...)

that is the colour i'd like my hair to be.

L'oreal majirouge are quasi-permanent quite intense reds (I used to use directions too - rubine) and they last reasonably well, for a red. I go to the hairdressers but I think you can buy them from Sallys - there's one in Edinburgh and think online too.

I have mine a rosewood colour with bright red and black chunks, which don't need bleach first. It kind of looks like Saffron from Republica but in reverse (hers was black with red bits)

BellaNoir, sounds nice. I am not sure I would go back to being that Red again though

Thanks for suggestions, I think I am scared to go for incase it goes wrong or I just hate it, as I still have memories of the day I called in sick because I thought it would be a good idea to dye my hair black and then had to spend the whole day trying to get it back to how it was

I have my hair dyed this colour at the hairdressers (mine is mousy brown as well) it doesn't need bleach first but it does fade very quickly.

my daughter frequently dyes her hair these red colours and does not bleach her hair at all. They do fade and she needs to re colour from time to time. Her natural colour is mousy brown although no one would know lol

DD has been using various red shades since she was about 14 - see my profile for pictures (the 'just about to become a teenager one shows her natural colour)- & has never used bleach except for after the time she went black. I think she recolours every 4-6 weeks.
