I've had enough!!!

The time, effort, expense, it's all too much. I have my hair relaxed and in a short style but keeping myself looking human is becoming impossible. I used to do my own hair in between salon visits but since having DS 7 months ago I no longer have the time. It's quicker for me to go to the hairdresser and back rather than do it myself. I'd have no chance trying to do it at home. As you can imagine, paying for a wash & blow-dry every week is too expensive so I just end up looking & feeling crap half the time.

Tell me ladies, what do you do?

After having so few replies for a couple of days I'm made-up that I made original post, I've learnt stuff! Cheers!

Never even thought to google or youtube, doh!

I also liked the lyricist from Floetry, do you know them? Her hair was great & she had the whole look to go with it.

How long is your hair MrsHenry? I chopped mine off to about 2 inches once unfortunately, I don't have Sinead Oconnor's features so it didn't last long.

Thanks for the tips
Not offended at all
Think they had the olive oil products in boots too,but don't know how great any of the products are

I do do some things right though, like starting at the ends etc. Don't wash it too often as she hates that also.

Usually end up bribing her with smarties (but make myself feel better about that by counting etc with them!) and bf dd2 at same time to try and get it done with a bit of peace!

Yes - sorry for hijeck too

HI, I am not sure it will be much help as I am white but I have unusually thick curly hair( my hairdresser says its akin to a black hair) and I never brush my hair..wehn it is wet I just run my fingers through it. I find that I can only wash with shampoo pnce a week and the rest of the time I just wet and add more products.I never blow dry just air dry and I also co-wash although I didnt realise it was a term I thought I designed it myself..oh well!! Also I have it cut reguarly and thinned out.
in one of those pics surely that is a weave on the woman ..no? in which case she is cheating

dont know if this is helpful?

Which pic are you referring to Bishbos?

bishboschone · 10/04/2009 00:33

the pic of cassandra something on page one..you can see where it is sewn to her head

Nezzi · 10/04/2009 00:36

Hoochie, what gorgeous children. Your DS1 has a serious amount of hair!

By the way, we have very similar music tastes too. Floetic is one of my all time favourite CDs and as for Jill Scott, I LOVE her!

Wow, you've got good eyesight! Can't see that on my laptop!
Must go to bed, DS is bound to be awake soon.

MarsLady · 10/04/2009 02:31

I go with the shaven look! MrsMerry... your hair looks lovely girl! Hoochies DS does indeed have a lot of hair lol.

I used Nexus Humectrus conditioner in my DC's hair. Expensive but brilliant. DT1 doesn't like having her hair done at all. DD1 and DD2 now do their own hair.

KatyMac.. hold off putting chemicals into your DD's hair for as long as you can. I think the Organic Root stuff is gorgeous and I like MrsMerry's tips with the rosewater. Thank God for t'internet. You can pick up any of the products that you need for your DC's hair.

Nezzi · 10/04/2009 11:47

Wow Mars, you shave your head?! That really is easy maintenance You must have a great face. Do you dye it too or is there nothing left to dye? I always liked the idea of a close crop with a very bold red or blonde colour on it but I never had the bottle.

Mumcentreplus · 10/04/2009 12:15

Yes the Denman brush was what my mum used on us when we were natural I use it on my girls hair...the best time to comb my DDs hair is when it's wet or has conditioner in it...with a wide toothed comb

I use Organics Olive Oil products mainly ...also Mizani,Kera Care and Iman products...but each afro texture is different and what works for one head may not work for another

MarsLady · 10/04/2009 13:58

I've shaved my head for years. No colour! Bleurghhh!!!! I love my shaved head. Very low maintenance

Flamesparrow · 10/04/2009 14:09

Mars does have a fab face

(Fascinated by this thread - with just basic wavy hair, I was intrigued so came to be nosy )

you have to have a great shaped head too.....

MrsMerryBunnyGirlHenry · 11/04/2009 20:25

I use Organic Root Stim stuff, too - fabulous.

Hi Mars! You look beautiful with shaven hair (she's in Hoochie's pics, for anyone that's unfortunate enough not to have met this lovely gal)

I also remembered that (as somebody mentioned plaiting earlier on) when my hair's not in twists I plait it at night to prevent knotting. Just two cane rows going from front to back should be sufficient. Also make sure your girls sleep with a silk headscarf tied round their hair, as cotton pillows can cause breakage. Also afro hair picks up lots of fluff from cotton pillowcases.

Another styling tip is to plait it in cane rows (about 8 for an adult head) with gel (make sure you moisturise it first) then leave it to dry (you need to sit for ages under a hood dryer for this, so maybe not great for kids). I then sleep on it and undo it in the morning - fabulous waves!

Am that Michelle O doesn't relax her hair, I never guessed that. And yes - how does she manage in the rain?? Maybe Frederick Fekkai (I think that's the spelling) really is the miracle product that none of us can afford.

MrsMerryBunnyGirlHenry · 11/04/2009 20:26

There's a gorgeous afro hair brand which I discovered the other day...will find it again and send you web link as they deliver. Not too pricey - about £6 for the most delectable conditioner I've ever smelled...

MrsMerryBunnyGirlHenry · 11/04/2009 20:27

Nezzi - my hair's just above jaw length as I chopped it a few months ago. Am growing it back as jaw length suits me best.

MrsMerryBunnyGirlHenry · 11/04/2009 20:50

Oops! Looks like the price has gone up! - this is the fab conditioner which I sometimes use on both DS's and my hair. Utterly divine. I must get some more.

Supersal - yay on the water/ oil combi. Bishbo - hmm...not sure about the weave thing, I always assumed Cassandra's locs were her own as locs can grow so long. I shall examine her hair more closely in future!

Nezzi, here are the Floetry lasses, which one do you mean? When I do a 'twist out' (i.e. undo my twists and leave the hair as it is) it looks a bit like the woman on the right...except hers is styled much better!

Have I won the record for the most posts from one MNer in a row?

Mumcentreplus · 11/04/2009 22:26

my hair is mid back so are both of my DDs actually DD2's is probably longer..bluddy expensive these conditioners!!

mustincreasebust · 12/04/2009 21:21

This thread is a god send!!! Who knew about YouTube > Its my own hair that is in dire need of help rather than my poor DD's but of fluff
