9 months after DD2 was born and I'm still 2 sizes bigger than my pre-preg clothes. I'm having to wear the same few T-shirts and jeans again and again.

I've been kidding myself about losing weight and I think I need a system and some support to get on with it properly.

Really want to wear my lovely pre-babies clothes now...

Anyone tried a weight-loss group and found it helpful?

slimming world I found great could not get on with weight watchers as I like my fruit too much and hated using points for it

Are the meetings inspiring/ supportive? What happens at them?

I've just started ww - I used it about 5 years ago and found it really worked.

I've since changed my job which has meant changing my eating and I've piled on the punds so have rejoined today with the aim of losing atleast 1.5 stone.

I know the principles behind healthy eating/exercise etc but just can't do it in principle - I think that for me what works is the process of going to get weighed and paying for it - you're not going to want to pay for something if you've been bad and overeaten so you've got more of a reason to eat well and follow the plan.

I just stay for weigh-in and then leave but quite a few people at my group seem to stay - I think they have a discussion topic and then Q&A.

LesbianMummy1 · 05/04/2009 20:16

we get weighed individually then group discussion on ways to improve weightloss etc everyone is told x lost 2 pounds etc but never anybodies weight. they have slimmer of week competition which is really inspiring I have weigh in tomorrow but have lost 11 pounds in 5 weeks with ww it was pound off every week then period and put it all back on

frazzledgirl · 05/04/2009 20:56

I didn't go to groups (just borrowed my mum's booklets after she lost 2 stone) but I lost a stone and a half on Slimming World.

Am actually thinner now than before DS (although not improved; don't ask about mummy tummy/norks/stretch marks... )

RinkyDinkyPinky · 05/04/2009 21:18

thanks for responses- sounds positive. Were the plans easy to follow? I don't think I could do calorie- counting...

And did/ do you feel hungry on them? Daft question, I know, which is probably why I'm posting here, but I tjink I'm a bit lot out of touch with what I really need to do to loose weight!

i am doinf ww and it does work if you stick to hte plan. with ww all foods have a points value, such as a apple has half a point, a bag of maltesers have 3 and a half points, and you are allocated a set amount of points each day according to how much you weigh, how tall, kind of job you do, etc.

i started at just over 17 stone and was allowed 32 points. but a lighter person is allowed less.

the ww meetings are better than sw imo because the leader will talk about a topic and you can get hints and tips on weight loss, sw jsut goes round all the members and ask about their weight loss which didnt help me personally.

i personally have to go to a meeting to have the leader weigh me, if i dont go i find myself slipping back into my old habits as 'know one wil know if i eat this chocolate bar'

on ww you could feel hungry at times if you make poor choices of how to 'spend' your points, but the idea is to stretch the points ot be able to eat alot of food to not feel hungry.

if you join ww, they give you booklets and meal planners to plan what to eat and buy so you can get used to the points system.

i hope this helps you, i have lost 13 and a half pounds, it has took 3 months, it is slow but i have eaten alot and not deprived myself of anything. i could have eaten alot less and lost more buti would have gotten fed up and given up by now.
i still have a long way to go but am determined to lose 3 more stone before the end of the year

RinkyDinkyPinky · 05/04/2009 21:50

That's good weight loss lizandlulu- what a difference you'll feel by the end of the year

I think I'd really benefit from being weighed because then the information would be out there, instead of all in my head (in the denial-centre of my brain!

I've found a meeting near me for tomorrow night so will go as long as DH gets home in time.

Now- I've committed to it. EEK!

I have never felt hungry on sw as you can eat so many free foods that you are never left feeling hungry I follow the extra easy whereby you can eat unlimited ammounts of carbs, meats etc and you have 2 healthy choices one calcium based and one fibre based you also get 15 syns a day for treats or you can save some or most of them up for the days you need more. I found ww meetings opposite to lizandlulu the last one I went to they annoyed me they said how you should start cooking your own chips and fish at home and then walk to the chipshop for your family to gain bonus points to eat your homemade fish and chips. I like family meals so find sw works great for all of us

lizandlulu · 06/04/2009 10:21

i think also you have to actually like your leader, i have joined ww several times and disliked most of the leaders. there was one woman who if you had put weight on one week, she would suck her lips in and say 'ohhhh put on a pound this week' and make me feel rubbish. i already felt bad enough and didnt need her tuppence worth, just that was enough to put me off her.
our leader at the mo is really helpfull and upbeat and will give you ideas rather than tell you what to do.
at the end of the day life often gets in the way

i found i couldnt eat out on sw, everything came with something else i couldnt have, or had enough of that day, such as spag bol curry and rice.

everything depends on how much you can plan i suppose and i am rubbish at planning.

I'm doing Weight Watchers at teh moment. Have lost 6.5 of the 10lbs I wanted to lose. I did it years ago and lost 2 stone so now am a gold member. I think it is really good and find the points system quite easy to work with. I also like the weekly weigh ins as they give you a focus. I have never stayed for the meetings though, just weigh and go. Generally it is a friendly atmosphere. You can buy recipe books and weight watchers chocolate bars and stuff like that but you don't have to hang around if you don't want to.

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/04/2009 12:12

I did WW and lost 2 stone last year.. I've stopped going to the meetings but still try and follow the basic principles and have kept the weight off (give or take a pound or two).

I thought I'd hate counting points etc. but its amazing how quickly you get into it. I didn't feel hungry and found it pretty easy to stick to

I also enjoyed getting out of the house without baby for one night a week (sad git that WW could form the total sum of my social life )

Good luck

RinkyDinkyPinky · 06/04/2009 22:01

Thanks everyone, I went to a WW meeting tonight and found it a positive experience. Not at all like "Fat Fighters"!!
The leader was believeable and informative and the other members were a friendly varied bunch.

I feel ready to confront my eating habbits and am looking forward to getting back into pre-preg Karen Millen and (old-style) Jigsaw bliss. It helped to write it down here.

(although I did calculate that my Lindt Chocolate Easter bunny is worth a whole day's points - well I suppose I was asking for a reality check!)

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 07/04/2009 10:25

i dont know how easter eggs are so many points, a middle size buttons one is 27

i think they just make them high to discorouge you from eating them
