I keep buying too much stuff half of which I don't even like (cos it's cheap and I think I need loads of them, tshirts for example) and they never seem to have anything nice yet I spend hundreds on them.

mileniwmffalcon · 05/04/2009 19:24

sorry but pmsl @list. surely you just buy things you like until you realise they a) never wear the things you bought or b) need extra things you don't have

mileniwmffalcon · 05/04/2009 19:27

in spirit of thread though, um...

a couple of skirts
some jeans, short ones good for summer
tshirts, several
pants, socks, shoes/doodles/crocs
a cardi or jumper
a dress or 2

Lawks · 05/04/2009 19:35

Blimey TB, your ds has far more clothes than I do.

TBCoalman · 05/04/2009 19:38

I don't think its that many clothes really - one smart winter outfit, one smart summer outfit, school stuff, sports stuff and a couple of joggers.

Are you SURE its more clothes than most, or does it just look like it because it's all written down at once?

Seriously, I would like to reduce wherever I can - what from that list shouldn't I bother replacing when the eldest grows out of it?

TBCoalman · 05/04/2009 19:41

Ah Connie, your list is more like mine
I might pinch it to use for DD.

conniedescending · 05/04/2009 19:43

TB - I think your list is reasonable....it just looks alot written down and once they are at school they almost need another wardrobe so they have 2 sets of clothes.

brimfull · 05/04/2009 19:45

Do you seriously have a list?
Is it actually written down somewhere??

mileniwmffalcon · 05/04/2009 19:46

so those with lists do you buy according to it every season? what about things that still fit from last year?

TBCoalman · 05/04/2009 19:49

Yes, I seriously have a list, on the computer.

Saves time - 5 mins to type out, then check clothes once or twice a year, make sure nothings worn out, too small, etc, then go to town with list. Easy.

I've got too many children and am easily confused. A list helps.

mileniwmffalcon · 05/04/2009 19:50

what about handing down? does it not get confusing then? surely easier just to note gaps in available clothing and buy accordingly?

CompareTheMeerkat · 05/04/2009 19:52

I have no idea what DS or DD have. And there is no likelihood of a list.

peanutbutterkid · 05/04/2009 19:54

dd lives in pajamas, jeans and school uniform. She barely needs anything else. I just buy when she (rarely) needs summat.

TBCoalman · 05/04/2009 19:56

mileniw - I don't update by season, my list is for all year round. I only replace something if its worn out. If it is outgrown it just gets passed on to the next DS. Easy.

IheartEASTEREGGS · 05/04/2009 19:57

Depends how old they are too I guess
I dont have a list but this is what I have for my pre-schooler boys

one clarks fitted shoes
one pair crocs
one pair wellies

rain mac
coat (thick one in winter, light one in summer)
couple of fleeces/jumpers
about 5 long sleeve T's
about 5 short sleeve T's
about 5 pairs of jeans
couple of pairs of cargo pants
loads of pants and socks
5 pairs of PJs
1 pair swimming shorts

conniedescending · 05/04/2009 19:59

I don't keep a list written down - I just know what they have because I've spent all day sorting wardrobes. I sort twice a year for winter and summer.

ANything that still fits stays put, anything stained, scruffy etc gets removed, anything too small goes to next child down (have 4 DC). I then write a list of what I need that will match in with what I have for each child so I can make an outfit or replace something that's too small etc

then when I go shopping I know I need 3 T-shirts in white/ pink/ blue in age 4 and a pair of jeans for a 6 year old for example.

saves tons of time and endless wandering

Smithagain · 05/04/2009 20:04

I have no list and heaps of clothes as a result of hand-me-downs. But I did pare things down recently, because we were running out of storage space .

Bare minimum for us, I reckon, is:

8 or so T-shirts and 8 or so long sleeved tops
3 pairs hard-wearing trousers suitable for romping around outdoors.
3 pairs shorts
sun suit
3 skirts, 3 dresses (both DDs like dresses)
3 warm jumpers, 3 sweatshirts
At least one nice, smart cardigan
Oodles of underwear and pjs
swimsuit, 2 sunhats, wellies, trainers, school shoes, warm coat, waterproof, lightweight jacket, fleece.

School uniform - basically two of everything, and at least four polo shirts and tights

In reality, we have more than this. I am not v efficient with laundry and both DDs are dirt-magnets, so I accumulate second hand stuff on the cheap to make life easier for myself.

I probably only buy a couple of outfits per year for them.
