Another "Help I'm going to A Wedding and I haven't looked smart for ages!" Thread

It's a May wedding, and I'm going to still be breastfeeding. The baby isn't coming to the wedding though, so I suppose I could do something BFing-unfriendly and put it on at the last minute.

I am short and frumpy, as I had major ab problems after delivery, so I have a big tummy. I also have big boobs, big hips and a big bottom. I used to have a small waist and flat stomach to balance it out, but no longer. I'm also very short-waisted, but I do (wracks brain to find a positive) have nice ankles and wrists.

I reckon that I'm a winter, as I don't suit warm colours at all, and I have pale skin and dark hair.

Does anyone have any suggestions please? Links would be absolutely fabulous, as with a baby and a toddler, I don't have time to traipse around shops and try lots of things on. DH is being lovely, and is encouraging me to buy something new to feel confident and beautiful, but I am disparing!

Start with the undies, a damn good bra and some hefty spanx type knickers should make a massive difference.

What do you like wearing? Are you comfortable in a dress / skirt or do you prefer trousers?

NorktasticNinja · 04/04/2009 20:50

Oh, and any clues on budget?

MrsTittleMouse · 04/04/2009 20:55

Not sure about budget. DH has been indulged a bit recently and he's aware that it's my turn to be spoiled. So for something great we could push the boat out. On the other hand, is it worth buying something expensive for a postpartum body? I reckon that anything over £100 would be pushing it.

I also (cunningly forgot this in first post) have great big thighs. They are athletic, as well as a bit chubby, and so I'm a bit nervous about wearing trousers. I like wearing dresses to dress up as I usually spend all day every day in jeans, crawling around on the floor playing trains and being vomited on.

I hate clothes shopping so can't be of too much help there. I have a figure similar to what you describe, and have found nice dresses for weddings in Monsoon.

Invariably, when I try to stop being frumptastic for a special occasion, I always forget two things:

--Pluck your eyebrows

--Make your hands look nice: Push cuticles back, use some moisturiser, trim nails to an even length, and slap on a coat of clear nail varnish.

Not sure about the sleeves, but the colour is beautiful.

Am strangely drawn to this...

50s tastic

Ooh, looks like Monsoon is a good bet.

Must get me to Bravissimo as well I think - my breastfeeding bras aren't doing much for my 32Hs.

with spanx and your new bra under? can be dressed up with shoes, bag, etc and can be worn for nights out too?

MrsTittleMouse · 05/04/2009 20:47

Thank you. I hadn't thought about Bravissimo for clothes too. I must find a way of getting there without DD2 though... the last time I went DD1 was breastfeeding and every time I took my bra off she got really excited, and every time I put one on she cried. Poor lamb, I suppose that it was teasing her a bit.
