They wanted a fortune for the Oakley ones I liked - thought I could get a price off internet and then wither buy them or ask local optician to price match??

Yes you can ask for it and they are obliged to give it to you.

By law your opticians are obliged to give you a copy of your prescription, but not your PD (pupillary distance) measurement. Unless you have a very high or complicated prescription (or an abnormally large/small head) it's sometimes ok to fudge it, but I wouldn't recommend it personally. You can measure your own PD but it's less accurate than getting a dispenser or optician to do it.

It's always worth asking your optician to price match - especially if they are an independent or franchise. A chain will most likely be restricted with what they can or can't do. However, bear in mind that the reason internet prices are lower is because you are not getting the same product - ie a bespoke pair of prescription sunglasses.

yes. we get a prescription so we can have safety glasses made up by a third party.

yes

get prescription from optician, also get pupillage distance measured (they should have a gadget to measure this for you)the internet shop will need this.

Thanks girls - I'll try and get them to price match - they are an independant local shop - so would rather give them the business if it's within 10 or 20 quid.

BALD - most opticians won't give out PD, or they charge for it! Otherwise we'd have no trade left!

Specsavers did last week, possibly because they were re glazing my sunnies at the time

er yes, your eyes, your prescription - it's not a secret. Just ask for a copy of your current prescription.
