Conditioner schmonditioner

I have tried brand after brand of so-called conditioner but it doesn't seem to do anything to my hair (even if i leave it in for a few minutes) and when i wash it out my hair seems even more tangled than it was to start with.

Anyone else have this problem? The only conditioner that seems to work for me is the little tube you get in hair-dye kits (e.g. Nice & Easy) which works wonders immediately after I've dyed my hair but only lasts 2-3 washes and I don't think you can buy it in the shops. In any case it's probably so intense and industrial it's not meant for daily use!

I'm sure it used to work for me otherwise I wouldn't have got into the habit of using it, so maybe my hair is conditioner-immune or something? I've stopped dying my hair too btw, but makes no difference either.

Comb your hair through while applying conditioner?
Try kids anti-tangle conditioner?

suchawuss · 03/04/2009 12:32

I do comb, but it doesn't glide through my hair or make it any easier (like it should, right?) so feels as If I'm combing without any conditioner at all iyswim.
Never thought of conditioner for kids, worth a try!

Lizzylou · 03/04/2009 12:36

southeastastra · 03/04/2009 12:38

the more expensive the better ime, towel dry the apply lots and comb through, leave on as long as possible.

what's your hair like?

suchawuss · 03/04/2009 12:39

PuppyMonkey, would you use that conditioner every day or just every now and then?

To start off, I used it each time I washed my hair and it really started to calm it down. Leave it in for the full three minutes (I clean the shower while I'm waiting ). Now I only use it maybe once or twice a week, with a more common or garden conditioner in between.

suchawuss · 03/04/2009 12:46

My hair's probably suffered from years of dyeing so a bit on the dry, straggly side. Spinspin, do you mean this one ?
Like the sound of it being all natural but what's the marshmallow bit about ?

you can get tubes of nice and easy conditioner in boots now!

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 03/04/2009 12:51

this is excellent

HolyGuacamole · 03/04/2009 12:53

Aussie 3 minute miracle is a life saver for me. You can buy sachets for about £1 or a bottle is about £3-£4.

suchawuss · 03/04/2009 12:55

ooh can you really? thanks sugar
i'm amazed how pricy these products are but then again i am a bit of a skinflint when it comes to these sorts of things...
right, off to experiment and max out the credit card!

For low cost, just use avacado and jojoba oil mixed together, and rub tiny amounts in and rinse.

Otherwise, I love the Lush conditioners on my long (dyed) hair

Shitemum · 03/04/2009 12:58

Retread from Lush is good.

I find Paul Mitchells Detangler the best conditioner, my hair is thick and a bit wavy.
I comb it through in the shower and it makes my hiar much sleeker than it woudl be ootherwise...

Nontoxic · 03/04/2009 13:36

There was a thread recently about washing hair with conditioner.
I'm rubbish at links on this itouch, but if you google 'washing hair with conditioner' you'll find loads of sites.
I've been doing it for a few weeks and my straw-like hair is much more silky and tangle-free again.
I think shampoo is the culprit - it strips too much of the oils away.
It sounds mad, but conditioner actually does clean your hair, and it's much easier to style.
And I no longer have an itchy, flakey scalp.

dexter73 · 03/04/2009 13:39

Have you had your hair cut recently? If not it might be worth having a trim to get rid of the dry straggly ends.

suchawuss · 03/04/2009 14:03

Unfortunately the straggly bits aren't just at the tips - it's pretty much all over so would have to shave my head to get rid of them all!!!!
