the skinny alternative to New Look Hula jeans?

I just love my £10 New Look Hula jeans. I love the stretchiness of them and how thin the fabric is, great for wearing under things. Anyway, I'm looking for skinnies with just the same lovely qualities. Are the New Look Disco jeans like a Hula but skinny? Any alternatives you can recommend?

watching tbis with interest as i also heart hula jeans.

i got a great pair of skinnies from dp a couple of years ago but they shrank.

i was not THAT skinny

soopermum1 · 02/04/2009 10:27

bumpy bump. calling all hula and skinny fans out there

Hulas are fab! According to the New Look website, Disco jeans have less lycra in them so might not have quite the same fit as Hula jeans. Once I get rid of this enormous bump, I'll have to head to New Look for a trial!

princessmel · 02/04/2009 10:55

My sister and I bought the New Look skinnys.

We were really pleased with them when we first tried them on. But during the first wear they went loose and baggy. terrible fit imo. Very baggy at the knees and not cut tight enough on the legs.

I stick to my H and M or Primark Skinnys.

MumOeufMonsters · 02/04/2009 11:08

i tried on the disco and the hula and yes the disco are similar

There is another style too that i tried on but i have forgotten what they were called.

I love and hate my Hulas though. They are too big by the end of the day and the smaller size would be too big at the beginning of the day!

Agree with princessmell about primark skinnys. m Mine were £8 and i have had them 3 years now !!

MayorNazeNotWithChoccyEggs · 02/04/2009 11:35

actually princessmel i also bought some new look sknnies a while ago and they turned into jodhpurs by the end of the day

am hoping they were not the equivalent of hula ones...

primark you say...

woodenchair · 02/04/2009 13:54

I've been looking at jeans today, like you trying to find an equivalent to the hoola, and the disco ones were quite low cut.

Plus I'm now in between a 12 and 14 so the didn't fit.

Have you tried M&S? they do skinny and straight, haven't tried them on though.

BTW I drew blanks in topshop, h&m, warehouse, wallis and dp, they were all too low rise for me.

princessmel · 02/04/2009 14:22

I really like my primark £8 ones. They fit great and are very skinny.

miche8 · 02/04/2009 16:17

i found the disco skinnys would need washing after each wear as they went baggy, they are also low cut and i needed to buy a bigger size than i take in the hulas. Also after a few washes my hulas no longer look as good, also think they have shrunk or maybe i was having a fat day.

I think next jeans fit and wash well, haven't bought skinnys from there though.

i on the other hand HATE next jeans. I need the size down (which actually i should like!) and they are badly made (or the last 4 pairs i have had from there have been cases of bad luck)

waitingforgodot · 02/04/2009 19:01

Are New Look Hula jeans low cut? Or do they cover a flabby belly?

MumOeufMonsters · 03/04/2009 21:02

no they aren't low

PrammyMammy · 04/04/2009 11:55

btw, primark skinny jeans are good value, and only 8 pounds. They stay in shape better than the RI ones that i always bought before i tried primark.

Primark skinnies are brilliant The grey are really nice.Ds has the black for school and they take a real battering but still look great wash after wash

RubyBlueberry · 04/04/2009 17:38

I have the new look Tall Person Disco ones, good for wearing with long boots. But went baggy round the tummy area (not a good look) - I'd suggest having a look for some on ebay and buy 2 pairs, (and I wouldn't blummin' tumble dry them cos that was what knacked them I reckon!!)

KingRoloEgg · 04/04/2009 18:28

Next jeans are OK if you are ample of hip and thigh. If you are more straight up and down they just fall off! I am size 12/14 in most shops and managed to easily get into size 10 in Next (which made me feel great but was obviously wrong).

I got some skinnies in Dorothy Perkins a while back and they are great, have kept their shape and colour well and were only £15. The waist band sits quite high too so you don't flash any bum and they nicely cover a flabby tum.

soopermum1 · 05/04/2009 19:19

well, did some real life research today and tried on some skinnies in new look (disco and polka) and primark (£8)

well, neither worked. for some really odd reason they were so tight round my calves it felt like my circulation was getting cut off.

now, this is not my usual problem, usually i have to worry about the muffin top but the legs can take care of themselves. this time around the waists were fine.

have never considered myself chunky calved before so am a bit bemused.

my last skinnies were from next and fitted great, but are now a bit baggy due to weightloss and wear and tear.

so, the search continues, with some modifications. nice skinnies for a newly chunky calved girl!

I'm a fan of the super skinny jeans from Gap, keep their shape really well. You definitely need to go a size down from normal though.
