PLEASE help me find toddler boy trousers with TURN UPS....

DS is tall for his age, but skinny.
He's getting too tall for his age 3-4 trousers.
I only put him in 3-4 size for the length, he is in adjustable waist ones at the tightest setting and they only just stay up.
If I get him age 4-5 trousers theres no way he will keep them up.

Ideally I'd like 2-3 waist and turn ups that I can unroll/un-pick to the length of a 4-5year old size.
or even to buy age 2-3 waist trousers with extra long leg length (does this exist??)

Can anyone help me please???

Would you like me to look in DS2's grown out of pile?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/03/2009 16:48

Buy him some braces/S belts.

H&M are good for tall skinny boys, as are Zara.

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 16:49

Yes please, that would be very kind of you

Would you measure how long you need the trousers to be please as I have learnt that age wise it doesn't always follow they will fit..

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 16:51

He has belts but hates them as he likes to go to the toilet by himself and cant do the belts without me helping - it infuriates him!

He has some cords from H&M and the age3-4 are just about long enough now and huge on the waist still

I think he must be freakishly shaped

Good idea Nabster - will go and do that now!

Ok his current ones are 16 inch inside leg and are getting too short, so I need at least 17 inch inside leg please....

Nabster · 30/03/2009 17:02

Okay. Will let you know if I have anything that will do.

Nabster · 30/03/2009 17:05

Now I'm confused. Measured a pair of age 4 trackies and they come up at 14 inches??

Would it be a pain to measure from top of wasitband to bottom of the leg please?

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 17:09

Top of waistband straight down front to bottom of leg is current 22.5 inches, so need 23.5 inches...
Does that make more sense?

I have a pair of grey trackies, age 4, for height up to 104cm and they are measuring 20.5inches. The original pair are measuring about the same.

WowOoo · 30/03/2009 17:13

We get H and M ones too. You can adjust waist and start off with them as turn ups until he grows into them length wise.

Ds been wearing his Hennes ones for 6 months now. They were baggy ish turn ups tos tart with and now they fit him perfectly.

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 17:26

Oh god I've confused everyone including myself!!

I need a small waist as Ds is so skinny, he needs age 2 waist and long length.

So the age 4 trackies will be enormous round his waist (thank you so much for looking though!)

The H&M ones we have are very baggy, only just staying up round his waist but only just long enough too!

I need age 2-3 trousers with a turn up sewn in I think, so that I can un-pick the turn up and make them into 'extra long length'

Can you not buy the size he needs then sew in elastic so he can easily get them up and down?

Do look in Zara, the childrens clothes are like the womens, made for tall skinny types.

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 17:32

I will look up Zara, thanks. We dont have a store here, so will check them out on the interweb!

Only problem with sewing in elastic is that the age 4/5 ones which are the right length are SO enormous round the waist that even if I sew in elastic and cinch them in enough he does tend to look a bit like a clown.
Imagine a size 10 woman in elasticated waist size 16 trousers - thats what he'd look like (except not a woman lol)

Oh I just remembered I'm sure I ordered some great ones from la redoute last year for DS. I think they do free returns so you could have a look?

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 17:39

Lovely thanks, adding there to my list of places to look!

What about braces? Could he manage taking them off his shoulders himself when he goes to the toilet?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/03/2009 17:41

lol at the clown thing too, I remember both of mine looked like that when potty training as the nappies had held up and bulked out the trousers before.

FannyJo · 30/03/2009 17:47

How do braces work? would he have them over the top of his t shirts and have to tuck t shirts in or do braces go under the t shirt?

OP posts:
TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/03/2009 17:49

I use them for DS over his t shirts, he is fast starting to hate them though so I think it's not a good solution.

loflo · 30/03/2009 19:41

DS is also skinny but tall and I think next are best cos they do single sizing e.g. 3,4,5,6 rather than 3-4 or 5-6. Nearly all their trousers have elasticated waists too. Saves the need for turn ups in our house
