Wedding outfit for 12 year old boy - ideas please!

We have 2 weddings to attend this summer (hurrah!), and need some ideas for an outfit for DS (12).

I'm slightly wary of putting young boys in formal suits (I'm allergic to the Oompah-Loompah look) but he is a big lad for his age - 5'4" with a 36" chest and might just carry it off.

He has NO interest whatsoever in his appearance and would live quite happily in tracky bottoms and hoodies. I, however, am exceedingly vain and shallow and intend to show off my menfolk looking their best whether they like it or not!

DS is very fair-skinned, with dark blond hair and grey eyes and I'm afraid a dark formal suit might "swamp" him.

Does anyone have any ideas for an alternative v. smart outfit that doesn't look in his words "totally gay"?

Budget not really an issue.

Thanks Reality - those outfits would look really good on him, especially with his colouring.

Was thinking maybe a BIT smarter though...

Kilt? KILT???

Our best man wore his kilt for our wedding, and DS's was utterly horrified!
He was 6 at the time and refused to take off his grotty old Parka all day. You can imagine our wedding pics!

what reality said

only way to go smarter is to add a tie and/or a jacket

or a light coloured casual suit with a t shirt under

no one will really expect anything more from a 12 yo boy. well no one under 80 anyway.....

We're going to a wedding in August, and the bride has demanded that ALL men wear suits, including my son who will have just turned 12! I told her that I don't like suits on children, to which she relpied "if he's not wearing a suit he won't be allowd in the church!" She's also got a "rule" that all ladies should wear hats, agian including my 8yo dd!

oh vonny, you need to start a bridezilla thread on her. Put it in AIBU and sit back and enjoy the responses....

i think some brides get forget that these are your GUESTS and not extras on a film set

vonny67 · 26/03/2009 08:44

I might just do that KM!

very smart, but without the pink tie i think

How about a shirt and loose tie (e.g. top button not done up) without the jacket, so it doesn't look too formal. Rather than trousers, could DS get away with some very smart dark jeans - moleskin ones could pass off as trousers.
