Where can I find nice, inexpensive boy toddler clothes??

I loved the H&M baby stuff but DS is now 20mo and into their 1-7yo range (which seems a bit of a weird age range to me - clearly aimed at the upper end and so too old for my wee boy).

I don't want to pay Boden prices, but want something similar - no slogans, not too predictably boyish, vaguely retro, bright colours not beige and navy, unisex perhaps, kinda Scando.

Where shall I look? Or will I have to make my own? Or fork out for expensive stuff? Help

I have recommendedKids Should Be Kids on MN before, they have lovely great quality clothes.

They often have special offers on, so get yourself on the mailing list for the newsletter.

Primark. Made by children for children!

GLaDOS · 24/03/2009 15:09

That shoukd be their new ad slogan!

Pannacotta · 24/03/2009 17:44

POP in the sale and IMO H&M is the best for boys, I find their striped tops perfect for both DSs who are 4 and 22 months.
Charity shops also worth a regular look.
Also try Mini Mode at Boots, they often have a few decent things.

tescos boy's trousers are fab, come with adjustable waists so last for ages, and very cheap (we had shorts last summer for a pound!) they also have some nice stripey/plain tops, but you do have to pick between the slogans. monsoon and boden sales are fab for classy bits, and john lewis and gap have some nice things too

MarchNowFebMum · 24/03/2009 18:28

Second Mini Mode at the bigger Boots - shockingly cheap and reasonably well made

Lizzylou · 24/03/2009 19:45

Really Hensmum?
I have never had a problem with the Vertbaudet sizes, Ds1 is tall and quite skinny now but DS2 is built like a bear and always wears his age clothes.
I do agree it isn't as good as it used to be, but have got some nice things from there in past few weeks (spend £40 get £15 off deal I think) and they were lovely.

Babbity · 24/03/2009 19:46

mini mode, John Lewis, H&M, Sainsbury's, Debenhams

Re Ladybird clothing at Woolies - it is coming back when Woolies is relaunched online, later this year, yey!

I second Mini Mode, John Lewis, Boden sales, H&M and charity shops.

Nearly New Sales - NCT ones or otherwise. Arrive very early to get to the front of the queue or volunteer as a helper or sign up as a seller to get first dibs.

mistlethrush · 24/03/2009 21:32

Pumpkin Patch - nice for not run of the mill colours too - and they've got a bit of a sale on on-line I believe at the moment.

trixymalixy · 24/03/2009 21:34

I totally agree about the H&M clothes, I love the baby range, but hate the 1-7 range. All spiderman etc.

Ebay is where I get most of DS's clothes.

Concordia · 24/03/2009 21:40

i quite like m and s stuff as they don't tend to have slogans on. the prices vary too, i got a fleece top there for £4 a while back but then there are posh outfits that are way more.
agree that second hand is generally the way to go. i'd rather dress my child in second hand next and gap than new asda most of the time (but i use asda for basics - esp jeans)

mum2samandalex · 24/03/2009 22:09

asda, tesco and matalan fab boys clothes if you ask me. Cant be doing with all these designer names when they are barely in them fo 5mins. Matalan has a half price sale on at the mo and teco has 20% off.

HensMum · 25/03/2009 10:20

Lizzylou, I've mainly had problems with t-shirts from Vertbaudet - maybe they are just supposed to be slimmer fitting? And I had some really annoying dungarees from there that unpoppered every time DS moved!

I did remember that DS's winter coat is from Vertbaudet and he's still in it even though it's 12-18 months and all his other clothes are 18-24 months now.

The offers are good though - we've had some great free toys from there!

spicemonster · 25/03/2009 10:24

I got some nice stuff from minimode the other day and am like whoever it was who said they have a huge stash of POP and Boden stuff from the sales to be grown into.

Lizzylou · 25/03/2009 10:51

Hensmum, see I'd have never put ole chunky legs DS2 in Dunagrees with poppers on...I learnt that from DS1. They are a nightmare aren't they? One tiny movement then it's all out in the open!

HensMum · 25/03/2009 11:18

I know but they are so cute! DS has some nice cord ones at the moment but has worked out that the poppers come undone so bends over and pulls them open from the bottom, Full Monty style! Then wanders around, arse in the breeze, looking very pleased with himself...

mistlethrush · 25/03/2009 21:20

That's peculiar - ds only ever wore dungarees until he was about 2, despite having washable nappies...

Lizzylou · 25/03/2009 21:22

I just used Dungarees without poppers on, far easier to just pull em down than faff with poppers opening all the time.

Sigh, I miss dunagrees, loved em

stubbyfingers · 26/03/2009 21:15

Was just wondering the same thing as the OP but then I found this!

oysterpots · 27/03/2009 13:16

Oh my good lord, that is TERRIFYING, stubbyfingers! Brilliant
