LadyPinkofPinkerton · 23/03/2009 15:32

So I dyed my hair, was meant to be red but its ORANGE. It's god-awful. DH is ready to divorce me!

So I need to dye over it with brown dye.

Any good brands to use?

Also, how long should I wait since applying the last dye?

HELP!!!

oh dear, I did this once, tried to go blond but ended up orange

what is your natural colour?

helsbels4 · 23/03/2009 16:05

Blimey! I don't know but wanted to keep it active for you I wouldn't personally mess about with it anymore by yourself but get to a hairdressers and ask for advice or is there a telephone number on the dye box that you can ring with queries? About 18 months ago I dyed my hair black for a fancy dress party and it was labelled as non-permanent - washes out in 24 washes - my arse does it?!!! (I stupidly thought I could just wash it 24 times the next day ) I washed and washed my hair but it didn't budge and I had to wait 9 farking months for it to grow out - I was mortified!!! I had nice shiny hair though Good luck, hope you get it sorted soon.

OK I'm queen of the hair dye. Though wouldnt encourage anyone else to mess like I do so please proceed with caution if you are about to try to rectify it yourself.
However I have done this many a time & re dyed it pretty much straight away. My natural colour is brown I have gone an orange colour many times when messing with blonde colours, a semi permanent will act as a permanent on hair that is lighter as it will stain the hair & if its a semi the chemicals arent as harsh (they do seem to come out darker than on the box though!)
All brand ones are pretty good (have used them all in my time & they are much the same)
Its never put me off I might add & I now regularly highlight my hair myself in between visiting the salon, saves me a fortune.

You really need an ashy brown colour as thet will counter some of the red/orange tones.

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 23/03/2009 16:34

Thank you for all your advice. I'm thinking semi permanent sounds the way to go. Also will make sure I don't choose too dark a brown.

Keeping fingers crossed for a decent outcome

Wash it several times with Head & Shoulders - isn't that supposed to strip the colour more than other shampoos? then see what you end up with before re-dying it.

Ooh interesting SoupDragon. I will pop to Tesco on the way home from work tonight

This has happened to me, I think clairol nice & easy medium brown 118 is the most neutral brown I have found. If I were you I'd put lots of conditioner on, and leave it for as long as possible, then dye it brown tomorrow

I'm so glad that I'm not the only person to have this happen.

Since I got home from work DH has said, it doesn't look that bad just leave it. Grrrrr!
