i have very deep stretch marks tops of thighs and all way down backs of legs i havent wore a swimsuit in 5 years but am going away soon and will want to wear one.

i might have a few sunbeds to try and fade them i am not a great shape although am working out a lot at gym so thats changing.

any one any ideas of short tankinis?

Aussie style rash suit, with top and cycling shorts?

A sunbed will not fade your stretchmarks. It can only really exacerbate them.

Wolfcub · 22/03/2009 21:36

I got a speedo endurance one recently with short legs, it gives good coverage, bought from swimstore online I think

hunnybun1981 · 22/03/2009 21:37

i have had a few sunbeds before and it does help imo, doesnt fade them like go away but they r not as visible with a tan

i will have a look for a rash suit?

cheers wolfcub to will check out

landsend do one with a bit you can let down over your thighs - not exactly a skirt - oh I make it sound so attractive, I'll have to look for a link...

hunnybun just wear a normal swimming costume. we are all worried about our own arses and if you cover it up it will look like you have gigantic pubes or ...worse...

ilovesweets · 22/03/2009 22:02

Stretch marks DO look better with a tan.... but fake it instead.

The stretched skin will be extra sensitive to rays

Get a decent spray tan

And at the spa weekend you will have a big white dressing gown on most of the time!

Also nothing wrong with wearing a small sarong for by the pool

The main thing is to wear whatever you choose with CONFIDENCE and nobody will wonder what you're trying to hide

Act as though you have Claudia Schiffer's legs

Enjoy!

hunnybun1981 · 22/03/2009 22:20

awh thanks ilovesweets

thats nice i have never had the courage to get a spray tan again because of the marks they r v bad not just saying it.

i know i could be a lot worse i am lucky to be alive and have a set of legs at all!

maybe i will just try the spray tan and see what happens.

Last summer on the beach I wore girly boardshorts with bikini/tankini on top. You can get them longer or shorter, from surf brands like Animal, Roxy, Billabong etc.

ilovesweets · 23/03/2009 09:02

hunnybun, beauty consultants have seen it ALL before, honestly

There WILL be women out there with stretchmarks a lot worse than yours!!

Not to mention terrible scars, hair in all the wrong places, boils on their bums, or even all three!

Stretch marks are bog standard commonplace, nobody will bat an eyelid even though to you they look really bad to you, thats just because you don't get to see everyone elses like the spray tan salons do, and honestly they don't care, they are thinking what to have for lunch and whether or not to buy that new pair of shoes at the weekend

Before you get a spray tan you could put on some Johnsons Holiday Skin for a few days before to build up a bit of colour

Don't let stretchmarks stop you from enjoying things, what would you rather remember when you're older - sitting in with stretchmarks or going out and having fun with stretchmarks? The stretchmarks are there regardless so you might as well have the fun!

morningpaper · 23/03/2009 09:13

Agre - you have dressing gown on ALL the time at the spa

There will be MUCH BIGGER LADIES there

Painted toenails cancel everything else out IMO

Have a lovely time

CMOTdibbler · 23/03/2009 11:23

Lands End do these which mix and match with their bikini or tankini tops

I like to clamber in and out of the pool with DS without worrying about where my cossie is going and find them ideal

A while ago someone did a link to a site that does "modest swimwear" - intended for certain religions I guess, but perfect also for those of us with less than perfect pins.

Can't remember exactly what the place was called, though, I'm afraid.

saadia · 23/03/2009 12:49

I ordered a modest costume from Swimshop (online) a couple of years ago. They had one down to the knees and one to ankles. I'm not sure if they still stock them though.

LouIsAHappyLittleVegemite · 23/03/2009 13:15

I wear board shorts (mens as they dont make womens in larger sizes) or a sarong made out of that stretchy material that you can get wet. Kind of like this

MamacitaGordita · 23/03/2009 14:36

When I was a self-conscious teen (with a great figure, sigh, just was blind to it at the time) I wore swimming short-stlye bottoms rather than regular shaped bottoms. Looking back at pics these actually made my bum look bigger and like I was hiding something.

When trying swimwear on in hot tiny horribly lit cubicles every flaw just seems horrific, and we just compare ourselves to the 'ideals' we see on tv/in ads/magazines. But it reality people really really do come in all shapes and sizes and there actually is no normal. And when on the beach/by the pool no one is looking at you, they are all stressing about their own wobbly bits, scars, stretchmarks etc! I agree with the poster who pointed out that you have your stretchmarks so may as well have fun as the aren't going anywhere. Although this can be tough at first!

Don't know if this is any good for you:

alternatively they have a sarong in the same material on sale
