Facial Moisturiser for the health / ethical - minded consumer.

I just hate most moisturisers, stinky and full of ingredients I don't even know how to say out loud, much less what they are and why they HAVE to be in there.

I like the idea of olive oil as moisturiser, but it gives me spots and blackheads. I confess to using petroleum jelly in the past -- I may just go back to that, though it hardly seems healthy or very ethically minded. Coconut oil irritates my skin slightly. E45 has parafin and Petrolatum in it.

I have very dry skin. Can anyone recommend a very simple no perfumes added just moisturising ingredients and nothing weird extra added?

Neal's Yard Remedies? I don't work for them but should get some money off for promotion.

Just put almond oil (very light) on dry bits only. Avoid oily/spotty areas. I never put any on my nose for exmlpe as never gets dry there.

Have you seen the oil cleansing method thread? I've been persuaded into abandoning my beloved Eve Lom to try this. First day in and my skin feels gooooood

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 12:22

Oh wheatgerm is meant to be good for dry and I out that when my skin is very dry or has patches of v dry. it's heavier but not sure this would be similar to olive..?

go and buy this months Marie Claire - it has the Neals Yard Frankincense cream free with it (£9.50's worth)

Tis lovely - I've been using it as a night cream all month - really nice product

I also use facial oils for day - Decleor Aromessences - they are fabulous - probably not ethical

MrsMattie · 21/03/2009 12:22

Here you go

There is a whole thread about it somewhere, too...

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 12:24

MrsMattie, I've abandoned Eve Lom too.
Want some for Xmas though.........

VanillaPumpkin · 21/03/2009 12:24

Liz Earle???
I have her moisturiser for oily skin and it is great.

If you want a natural product for your face, fgs do NOT use petroleum jelly !! Or in fact any mineral oils - would not even use standard baby oils and particularly not on my babies. For one thing, they don't actually penetrate the skin - they just smooth over the top. But bearing in mind their provenance that is perhaps not such a bad thing.

Gosh, good ideas! Just discovered that DS2 had nits, though (blllleeeecccchhh!!). I may be spending most my afternoon dealing with that, instead.

mloo - you need Hedrin......tis the only thing which kills the buggers in this house

ilovemydogandMrObama · 21/03/2009 13:04

dr hauschka

PinkTulips · 21/03/2009 14:06

dr hauska is terrible for oily skin though, brings me out in spots now.

simple is about the only product that doesn't aggravate my spots now, perfume free too.

jojoba oil is supposed to be great and is a natural product

Have you tried lush? If you have a local one they will probably give you some little samples in pots so you can try several products. I like skins shangri la for dry skin, skin nanny is good too-it was designed to be like vaseline.
I work for lush but used the stuff years before I worked for them so this isn't just a blatant sales pitch!

Bellebelle · 21/03/2009 22:35

Aveeno cream is good if you don't want anything fancy. It's made from wheatgerm and I discovered it when recommended to me for DD2's dry skin (I have combination skin and fine for me). Also agree that lush products are excellent.
If you want to spend lots then the Nude range is very good and free of nasties. You get it in Harvey Nichols and Space NK and online I think.
