Can anyone recommend a "New Mum" uniform?

First-time mum to be and I've still got 16 weeks to go but I'm trying to plan a bit for after the birth. I work full time at the moment (business casual), and then spend most evening & weekends in lazy-lass joggers and t-shirts, pottering at home & in the garden. Most of my current evening/weekend "scruffs" aren't fit to answer the door in, let alone walk down to the paper shop .
Can anyone give me some guidance on getting together a little bit of a wardrobe for after the baby comes along? I'm sort of thinking I'll need easy care, comfy stuff that I can get plenty of wear out of and just pull an outfit together without too much thought but I don't want to finish up too slobby or scruffy. I'd really loathe wearing my work stuff when I'm on ML - I shall be glad to be out of the place temporarily

Will you be bf'ing ? I usually found jeans/trousers/long skirts with long tunic style tops best. Baby could "hide" under your top whilst feeding and you don't flash your norks to the world. Get colours that will hide milk (i.e not too dark, maybe something patterned). Low waisted or loose trousers to start with (your tummy may still be big for a while) and then higher waisted ones to hold your baby belly in a bit once things calm down a bit.

Get a couple of "nice" pairs of pj's for the first week or so. You really might not want to get dressed for a little while (just enjoy your lovely new bundle ) but you'll want to look half way presentable for any visitors

i think you need comfy lounge/ yoga wear. Wellicious and Pyjama Room both good.

Wrap dresses also good for going out (esp for easy access when bfing)

Jeans and wrap tops also (ditto above)

hope all goes well, best of luck!!

I wore my maternity jeans with floaty tops, with a maternity vest underneath. This worked well for BFing, looked feminine, and the maternity jeans provided comfort whilst looking nice.

Do not spend any serious money on clothes til about 9 months after the birth. The speed which you will loose weight will make it a waste of money. Also, don't forget your ribs will shrink back in, your arms will get thinner - not just your bump. So, if you do buy anything, it will look too big all over in just few weeks time.

Good luck with the birth

oooh yes, nearly forgot - when I had my first dc I bought a load of lace-edged cami-type things fromPrimark - about £2 each from memory and wore them as tops under light cardis with jeans... the spaghetti starps made 'em easy to pull down for breastfeeding, with the cardi providing some cover. And they looked reasonably feminine. Sounds as though you;re due about same time of year as I was so this could work well. And, being so cheap, I had no qualms about throwing them out/ using them as dusters once they'd served their purpose

Have one or two things ready, but you probably will need to buy a few bits after the birth, as it's impossible to know what size you'll end up. Online shopping will be your best friend!

I lived in stretchy black jersey pants/yoga pants and long, forgiving tops (tunics, peasant-style floaty tops, 'dresses' over trousers) for the first month or two, but I had a c-section, so jeans were just a complete no-no for me! To be honest, I also wore my maternity gear loads for the first few weeks, too. Get some comfy, easy to get on and off shoes, too (sandals if you are having a summer baby - I was an Ugg fan as a winter mum!). A couple of long cardis are good for discreet bf-ing. Have a look at a bigger branch of Asda or Tesco for that sort of thing. I was surprised to find a few nice, cheap bits to tide me over in that period from 'still look pregnant' to 'just look like I've eaten all the pies' and back to some sort of normality

Good luck

The thing is that your shape will alter a lot from what it was before. I used to have a flat, flat tummy and the thing I found the most hard was that it's just sad and saggy now. I found what worked for me was a good pair of jeans, 5 good quality long sleeved t-shirts and then some chunky nit short sleeved cardis to go over the t-shirts. This was winter but there must be a summer equivalent. Looked funkyish but also covered up sad tummy and was great for breastfeeding. Also because it was so simple, I just rotated the t-shirts and it worked for the duration of my mat leave.
