Summer Wardrobe...12 month old girl

Might seem a daft question and hard to express so hope this makes sense. Just how much clothing does a 12-18month old girl need for the summer. We have some gifted and donated but I am wondering how much more to get.

BTW I don't mean layers and how much to dress her in just quantities of each item ifyswim.

7 outfits, dresses, trousers, tops whatever suits her, that's what I used to do.
7 vests too and 7 pairs of socks.
1 pair of nice shoes, 1 pair of trainer type things.

That sounds good Sorrento, basically enough for a week. I just went with the flow and the carrier bags of newly donated clothes when my son was small. As sisters etc had children close in ages. I just picked out what suited him and passed on the rest and didn't worry if I didn't use it all. So I bought comparatively little. Different story this time, bigger age gap and lots of lovely girly things around......

I would buy lots of T shirts as 12 months can go through at least 2 a day. I tend to buy these in the supermarkets- Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda are very reasonable. Then have a couple of skirts, a couple of trousers, a pair of shorts, a nice dress and a couple of cardies.

You always end up with loads that they don't really wear for what ever reason, whether it's that it didn't fit properly or it was too hot/cold etc.

My toddler's out grown summer clothes are under the bed waiting for me to try a few of the pairs of trousers on her in the vain hope they still fit, and then for me to list it all on ebay.

I keep looking at it thinking, she only wore that once or in some cases not at all.

I agree with prosecco too, buy good quality bottoms and dresses and then cheap tops because they are the things that tend to get stained.

Zara do really good quality cheap t shirts which I team with Boden and Monsoon bottoms.

Have been noticing this 1:2 ratio with bottoms and tops. And a difference between girls and boys you don't think about when you have a boy because their clothes are darker and don't stain unlike pale coloured anything. I'm not a fan of putting her in clothes I can't get the stains out even if they are washed and I know they are clean.

That's what bibs are for lol

MrsBadger · 20/03/2009 22:28

re stains, buy tops that are either yellow or plain white (no bits)

yellow means the inevitable tomato stains don;t show and plain white cotton can be bleached (in sun or domestos as you like)

good tips...I like.. except dd pulls bibs off. she can undo the velcro. Anyone found larger size, extra sticky velco bibs at a reasonable price and what age did you stop using them. Working out the value of getting some more. CM and nursery dont seem to like the tie on ones and DH is always worried he'll do them too tight.

The rubber pelican bibs are good I usually found. DD can't get them off (she took velcro off too) and they catch some more of the food.

It is tempting to buy lots - I had stacks of "pretty" summery dresses and outfits which barely got worn because it was too cold and she was crawling/just starting to walk so was much better off in trousers most of the time

I would buy a pair of light shoes like crocs or sandals for really hot days and make sure they're well broken in (if sandals rather than crocs) by wearing with socks before it actually gets hot.

Other than that, I'd want -

a couple of pairs of cheap jersey shorts or leggings

a pinafore in something hard-wearing like denim (can wear with tights and long-sleeved tops if cold summer)

plenty of T shirts and a few long-sleeved jersey tops

a pair of dungarees or jeans and a couple of pairs of soft jersey trousers, the kind that are a bit like jogging bottoms

seven sleeveless vests and seven pairs of socks

a cardi or two in cotton which won't be itchy if worn over a T-shirt
