I usually hate slogans too. However, my ds's favourite t shirt says "Half Boy Half Machine" which I think is quite funny. It's also bright yellow which is a bonus.

I'm another one that hates all slogans.

I like fairly plain nice bright colours. Most of the stuff on the high street for boys is so dull.

I've dyed white t-shirts for my ds's this year. I did purple, orange, red, bright green and blue. The ds's love them and they look so much more fun than the usual bland colours you get.

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 09:13

Thanks for your input everybody. I did think the make it snappy one was quite bad. I saw that one in Asda I think but not sure if it had a picture on it. What do people think of the other ones I posted which relate to the picture rather than the child wearing them (which i too try to avoid)

bicycles, astronauts, rockets, spacesips, submarines

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 09:24

T-shirt with 'half boy half machine' sounds nice and different.
I used to have one with 'half man half biscuit' (a band) on it.

Don't like slogans either, unless it's something quite different and interesting.
Ds thinks otherwise though!

The other ones - don't bug me with a bug would bug me! (but am in quite bad mood today.) Would depend on fabric, colours etc

I now have to confess that "Half Boy Half Machine" came for Primark. The shame!

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 09:32

Wowoo - what about the top 5?

DS2 is wearing an orange top with a gorilla on and the slogan Go Ape. DS1 is wearing one in steely blue with striped sleeves which says Cool Dude and it even has a number underneath. They are not hideous

You will not please everyone all of the time. Some people will think stuff is tacky, some will think stuff is twee and stupid. [shrug] As long as it doesn't say "I'm a little sh*t" on the front I can't see the problem.

Personally I think keeping it simp0le is the key. One of my fave tops for DS1 is a plain blue one with a yellow stitched lightening bolt on it. In fact, some of my fave tops for DD are similar. Even the horrendous slogan ones which say "Lovely" "laughter" and "sparkle".

TaurielTest · 21/03/2009 09:40

MamaHobgoblin, I salute you.
I feel just the same about slogans on boys' clothes, and am going to pinch your "one notch away from an ASBO" line!

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 10:00

thread about slogans I have come up with

Promise none are anywhere near I am a little sh*t!!

I do not mind slogans, as long as they are not inappropriate (ie "Lock up your daughters") and yours are quite cute and funny. LOL re "Return to jungle" though!

My main bug bear about kid's clothing is colours though. So, please can we have some primary colours like red, blue, green, yellow? And, as suggested, spots and stripes and other shapes?

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 10:06

Just to let you know I have CATted a few of you

Top 5, that I see (not from your list but on boys clothes stereotypically) would be

Rockets and vehicles of any kind
(my niece wears a bike t-shirt but it's very tra la la we're going for a bike in countryside, whereas DS' is ZOOm down a hill and clearly meant for boys!! Both nice.

Fierce animals .. lions, crocodiles etc

Not top 5 at all, but you see what i mean?!

Don't think any animals on your list stereotypically boys.

EachPeachPearMum · 21/03/2009 18:00

I hate slogans and words on children's clothong. Not keen on 1 big picture either tbh.
I like bright colours- reds, oranges, turquoise is good, leaf green etc.
Stripes are good, but not too much- plain tops are actually very nice.
DD has most of her clothes from gymboree- though not the ones that have slogans on, as I notice they seem to have moved to. She actually had some gorgeously cute outfits with frogs , caterpillars, crabs, mushrooms etc in, which I think most people would consider 'boys' images, but were very feminine, with small prints or embroidery, not one large picture IYSWIM. I never really dress her in pink either.

ds is only 6 weeks, but already I am despairing- clothes for boys are actually worse than clothes for girls- I can hardly believe it!

Why is this the case?

nappyaddict · 21/03/2009 18:08

I've got a different thread here too if anyone is interested.

(Pruners - we have the flowery spanner one too! I love it, its quirky. Got in on sale of course. Have moved to Aus now, and think I will miss P.O.P the most. Might have to send friends to the sales and get them to post some stuff )
