am having my hair cut next week and was thinking of something a little different possibly - pic on my profile..my hair is currently in a bob, which goes up a bit at the back( ie longer in the front) and has a bit of a fringe, which I like but I get bored very quickly...also most of the time I feel it looks a mess - it's fine and never looks neat !
I don't want to look dull (am having my highlights done also) or old (am same age as Madonna - actually she's a month older)
Do you think more layers ? thank you (please be nice)

i like a long fringe which can be swept to one side

colour will "lift" your hair and add texture

i think you have great bone structure so could get away with something quite face framing (so layers round face)

yes, long side swept fringe,though I have a bit of a cowlick...layers...
what I need is a way to describe what I want to hairdresser !

buy a hair mag - very useful as you can show a picture to the hairdresser rather than having to describe somehting

MargaretMountford · 20/03/2009 10:31

sometimes I draw a picture for her ! I find hair mags a bit alarming..lots of the pictures seem very impractical - I'm sure there are reasonable cuts if one looks..am trying to think of someone's hair that I like - actually there was a picture of Natasha Richardson (RIP) with a short cut which looked very pretty, but I think she had might more substantial hair than me...

Agree that sideswept fringe is very flattering. Also recommend hair that is long enough to tie back, give you lots of options. I cut my hair very short last summer (a mistake) and will be jumping for joy in a few weeks when I'l be able to tie it back. I'm aiming for just longer than chin-lenght bob, layers and side swept fringe.

BTW, you and your ds are both gorgeous! I'm always impressed by how many MNers are so good-looking

MargaretMountford · 20/03/2009 11:25

bless you macherie ! I'm not feeling particularly lovely having seen some truly hideous pictures of me taken last week - hence the thoughts on new hair !
My hair is useless at being log though- when I start tying it back I know it's not good, though I love tied back hair on everyone else !!

another one here of how lovely you are MAS... not how I imagined you, but ds had to get his looks from somewhere....

No idea on the hair thing though!

MargaretMountford · 20/03/2009 15:14

do you know this is such a boost - seriously I was feeling so haggered this week that to hear nice things is very cheering (mind you,the photo is about a year old now, I may have withered since then !!)
Will look through some magazines for hair inspiration in the meantime - actually, I think just having the ends cut will perk it up a bit - thanks again dear mumsnet friends
