MY HAIR, MY HAIR, MY HAIR!!!!!!!!!

It is driving me BONKERS!!!!!!!!

I am naturally dull, mousy, quite dark brown.....had been having highlights for about 8years and I felt I was getting just a little too blonde. I also felt it wasn't healthy to keep doing it over and over and over again.

So, about 4 weeks ago I went brunette. But, I feel horrible! I was hoping it would settle and, although the colour has settled, my feelings haven't.

I feel dull.
I feel unattractive.
I look old.
My skin looks so pale.
My hair feels like it needs cut again.

What do I do know? Its going to take a factory load of chemicals to get me back to where I was. And my poor hair, it will be frazzled.

shave it all off or get more highlights? i've had bleach ones put over colour was ok.

Lulumama · 18/03/2009 13:21

i would get the hairdresser to recolour for you

frumpygrumpy · 18/03/2009 13:21

If I thought my fat face was pretty enough to do a Sinead O'Connor I'd be first in the queue outside the barbers tomorrow morning. But, sadly.........

Have you tried different makeup and clothes colours, scarves, earrings and things? maybe its seeing such a different contrast thats making you wail?

fwiw I went really REALLY short to grow colour out (and wore lots of hats). It does grow eventually!!

frumpygrumpy · 18/03/2009 13:26

I did have 5 foils put through the top but........ thank you lulu!

It just feels so fake. I was aiming for Angelina Jolie but I've come out a bit Paul McCartney in the Mills years.

I was about to ask about make-up and clothes. If you've been doing your make-up and dressing as a blonde for 8 years then you probably need to have a rethink, especially about the make-up.

dearprudence · 18/03/2009 13:28

Do you wear make-up? A face-full of slap might help a bit?

If you haven't got used to it in 4 weeks, it's reasonable to say you don't like it. Just get it re-coloured. Maybe a few highlights around the face might help, if you don't want to cause more damage.

Having said that, hair colour technology has moved beyond the days of Sun-In and shouldn't be particularly damaging unless you have a lot of bleach and combine with a lot of heat styling.

A pic would be nice...

Lulumama · 18/03/2009 13:29

5 foils is not enough

agree about make up, i have changed hair colour and bought different blusher and lisptick, brunette can drain you a bit if too dark

don;t do what i did and do a DIY job on it.

i once got DH to help me do that boots straightening kit on my hair and he made me sign a disclaimer that i would not divorce/ blame him if my hair fell out

frumpygrumpy · 18/03/2009 13:30

Oh yeah, I have been working so hard with the make up and jewellery. And there are some things in my wardrobe that are a real no no. My hairdresser looked perplexed when I told him I'd need to rethink my clothes!!

Even DD1 said "mama, why are you asking me about your hair again" PMSL

It just still feels so alien. People still don't recognise me. The lollipop man said "oh hi, didn't notice you there"

dearprudence, I'll just take the slap thanks

photos no way. No before and after shots for me. Just think Paul McCartney's hair but much, much longer. Like, say, two-inches-up-from-your-bra-strap-that-goes-across-your-back longer.

Lulu, I feel pretty good now you have shared your DIY experiences.......you truly are wonderful

And I paid for this! From a reputable and well-respected salon. No plastic granny head dryers for me.
