this kind of thing. Has anyone done this and are you impressed with it?

imo I wouldn't wear it...BUT only because other than wedding/eternity/engagement rings I don't wear everyday stuff and wear things for a night out and its not something I would wear.....BUT I would love it as a keepsake...
Very cute.

slowreadingprogress · 17/03/2009 20:42

I make this stuff as a little bit of a hobby, have done my ds' and some for friends

Love it, the results are lovely and it's such a lovely thing to have these little prints preserved IMO. I'd say go for it - there a bit pricey for silver IMHO but it is worth it for something so personal.

slowreadingprogress · 17/03/2009 20:43

there a bit pricey! good god what is it with my spelling today? They're a bit pricey I meant

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 17/03/2009 20:48

I had the double keyring made for DH for his birthday. The chain broke within a couple of months and the clip broke within the year. Luckily he didn't loose the fingerprint bit.

His keys are kept in his briefcase, it's not as if they are thrown around IYSWIM.

Drusilla · 17/03/2009 21:02

Was the quality of the actual fingerprint bit ok? I have a bit of an inheritance and am thinking this would be a nice keepsake of DS as well as a good way to remember the person I am getting the inheritance from. Nearly all my jewellery is silver so it would all go together.

slowreadingprogress do you think the ones that send you a kit to take the print yourself would be ok? Or would you recommend going to see someone who does it personally?

How funny I clicked on your link & was looking at the bookmarks thinking of getting one for me with DS's fingerprint on it, and the one I was most drawn to had as the example, my name on it!!! Spooky!! It is not a common name either! Or overly common I should say.

slowreadingprogress · 17/03/2009 21:20

weeeell, I can't advise as I've not done the 'kit' thing so don't know how easy it is or otherwise. Personally, though, if I'm paying that sort of money I would want THEM to do all the work, TBH!

I think there's a company called 'Smallprint' who have franchisees so you might find a local person?

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 17/03/2009 21:31

The prints are very good, we used a company called Kinderprints.

blowninonabreeze · 17/03/2009 21:36

I've been looking into this alot recently.

The nicest ones I've found (IMVHO) are these?

Not sure how they stack up price wise though?

DontCallMeBaby · 17/03/2009 21:57

I have a Smallprint bracelet of DD's fingerprint - tbh it's not very good. You can't see any detail in the print, and the link attaching the charm to the bracelet broke.

Drusilla · 17/03/2009 22:08

I did look at smallprint but they don't have a franchise near me. That site I linked to has a lot of blurb about how she makes each piece herself etc. The kinderprint stuff looks nice tho! There are lots of sites but they all seem to offer very similar pieces for a very similar price so I'm wondering if there isn't much in it.

Boiledegg - thanks for mentioning kinderprint, have just looked at website properly and realized they are about 20 mins drive from where I live!

I've bought several from this lady. She sends out some quick set putty and you take the prints yourself. I took 4 prints from DD when she was asleep, the night of her 2nd birthday. You then send them off and she picks the best one to use as a mould. She'll then keep them on file for 12 months in case you want copies.

Other companies get you to use ink and make a fingerprint on paper, which you then scan in, enlarge and send off. That's how they do the hand print, footprint and child's pictures.

I wear mine everyday on a necklace with a murano glass heart and my wedding ring (excema means I don't get to wear my wedding ring often.)

We've had copies done for both sets of grandparents and one for my daughter. She's also done fingerprints for my 2 nieces. The babies need to be at least 12 months old before their fingerprints are fully formed. I think the older they are the more likely you are to get a clear fingerprint.

She does custom listings too so all the charms I've had are different shapes. My SIL wanted something in particular which wasn't listed but she was happy to make that shape too.

Got fingerprint cufflinks from someone on notonthehightstreet.com for DH's birthday a couple of years ago. He LOVES them. (partly because DD1 was only a few months old at the time so her print is teenytiny!)

marilynwhirlwind · 25/03/2011 20:45

I got a triple bracelet with a heart charm from notonthehighstreet.

They sent me a kit which was really easy to use, ds was 5 at the time. I'm really pleased with the result and their service was excellent.
