Just interested!

I'll start....I have a pair of black jeans bought in 1993. I haven't worn them in YEARS but I try them one once a month just to make sure they still fit, and then feeling smug, consign them to the back of a drawer.Or feeling plump, I stop eating as many pies until I fit into them again

DH thinks I am barking....

Oh...and interestingly. They are a size 12, and the size 12 jeans I have tried on over the past 6/7 years are considerably larger than the old ones. Sizes are definitely changing.....

I am 33 and have a pair of black socks with red spots that I used to wear to school, aged 13 and onwards. They don't have holes, and have remarkably resisted all attempts by the sock black hole to suck them into space.

I have a lycra dress from Pineapple I bought when I was 17, looked fabulous in it at the time ... I will never get rid of it because every time I look at it's tiny size 6-ness, I marvel that I was ever that small.

flowerybeanbag · 17/03/2009 20:45

I have a short sleeved pink and purple jumper which I bought in 1997. I still have it because it is beautiful quality, a lovely shape, lovely colour, washes well without needing ironing and it still fits me.

I also have my 'skinny' skirt which is a little khaki skirt from Gap which was too big for me at my skinniest. I keep that to see if I fit in it at various intervals. I would not actually wear it again because it's too short, but it's my 'tester'.

flowerybeanbag · 17/03/2009 20:45

Oh, and I have my wedding dress from 1998 and also a bridesmaid's dress I wore age 7.

flowerybeanbag · 17/03/2009 20:47

So ignore everything else I said, the bridesmaid's dress is the oldest, and most certainly doesn't fit me.

feedthegoat · 17/03/2009 20:53

Mine is a vintage leather jacket i bought from a car boot sale in 1993. The lady I bought it from said her MIL bought it in 1964! It claims in the label to be a size 16 but fit me back then when I was an 8-10 (Oh to be 17 again!) I'm now a 14 and couldn't even get an arm in it but can't bear to throw it away as it reminds me of my 'indie kid' days (still got a pair of dr martens lurking somewhere too!)

badgermonkey · 17/03/2009 21:02

I have a pair of socks I've had since I was 8. They still fit me, but I daren't wear them much!

MrsGokWan · 17/03/2009 22:00

I have the dress and jacket that my great grandmother wore on honeymoon in 1903. It is a lovely soft yellow with a little brown leather belt. The jacket is 3/4 sleeves with a fox fur collar, which is removable. It was hand made for her.

The dress fits me but is the wrong shape, the waist is completely in the wrong place, Geegee had a longer body than me. The jacket fits and I have worn it for posh things or just with jeans. Sometimes with the collar and sometimes without, it useually depends on how wicked I feel

I have a dress of my grandmother's and one of my mum's as well. I have also got bits and pieces of mine that I have kept from the 60's through to the 90's.

notyummy · 17/03/2009 22:15

ah...flowerybeanbag..at least I am not alone!

White girls pinafore from 1880. I have worn it, but it's fragile. In fact, it is quite on trend!

Amapoleon · 17/03/2009 22:21

I have a cardigan that I bought from Next at least 20 years ago. It's big and baggy and great for slouching in.

cyteen · 17/03/2009 22:25

Long sleeved tshirt I bought when I was 12, so...21 years ago. I got it from some skate shop, it used to have a print on it - small pink hand on front, large green hand on back - but has long since worn off. I still wear it all the time for slobbing about, it's so comfy and makes me remember how cool I felt buying it

Aefondkiss · 17/03/2009 23:36

I have a dress I bought in 1999, from a shop called press and bastyan (sp) in Glasgow, it was £20 in the sale and it is so lovely and slinky, I am at least a size bigger and it is quite forgiving.

I also have some 70's maxi dresses, that my Mum's friend gave to me when I was about 17, one is white with paisley pattern, the other is red with white daisy and crochet detail on the bust.

trixymalixy · 17/03/2009 23:48

A Fred perry t-shirt that was my Mum's. i don't know how old it is, but older than me.

I don't think it'll fit me any more, I last wore it when i was about 19 and at Uni.

trixymalixy · 17/03/2009 23:49

Ooh, I have a lovely top from press and bastyan, I miss that shop!!

Aefondkiss · 17/03/2009 23:59

trixy I just googled and found Bastyan

I have (embarrassingly) a Snoopy t-shirt I bought when I was at school in 1989. I've worn it as pyjamas ever since and it still looks good as new. I think the armed forces all need Snoopy clothing - it's miraculously hard-wearing.

I also have a vintage 1960s Pucci silk shirt that I snapped up from someone online who didn't realise what it was. I am afraid to wear it in case someone spills red wine on me or puts a fag burn in the sleeve. I have a friend who is Vintage Fashion Rain Man and he tells me it's very valuable.

ninedragons · 18/03/2009 05:37

The Snoopy t-shirt gave my DH & me a moment of we're-positively-Jurassic horror. He took on two new graduate staff in October and the t-shirt is older than either of them.

MrsOnslow · 10/06/2011 15:43

I LOVE Bastyan it's by the same designer Tonia Bastyan. I've joined their mailing list. Had an e mail today saying the sale starts today Here's the link. www.bastyan.co.uk

I still have the dress I made for my school end of year dance in 1990. Black with pink roses, boned bodice and thin straps, full skirt (just above the knee) with black satin edged net underskirt. It still fits (just)!

Somewhere in a wardrobe I think I also still have the beautiful black silk velvet coat with a white silk lining and flared sleeves that my granny made in the 30s. I wore it with the dress when I was sixteen.

Am keeping both in the hope that one of my two daughters (now 2.10 and 4 months) will want to wear them one day! Too precious for the dressing up box though.

tulpe · 10/06/2011 16:31

I have a beautiful aqua silk 50's evening dress which I bought from a vintage store last year, together with a beaded gold evening clutch bag.

However, the oldest item which has been in my possession for longest is a white cotton fitted blouse which my mum used to wear in the early 50s. It has "grown on" capped sleeves and a boat neck with a rose patterned lace inset detail which shows off your collarbones beautifully :) I love that the cotton is still crisp and fresh. Looks fab with either a-line skirt or ankle skimming skinny crops. I have worn it every summer since I turned 16.....24 years ago!

RAlover · 10/06/2011 16:57

I have the dress that my Mum made for her engagement party in 1967. Beautiful brocaded black silk. Unfortunately it is a size 10 / 12 and I now have size 14 norks, so am saving it for DD

SummerRain · 10/06/2011 17:01

I have a whole suitcase bag full of stuff that I wore as a teen but which is far too slutty for me now. I plan on donating it to dd if she likes them when she's old enough and holding onto them forever more in sad sentimental fashion if she doesn't

I also have a few daft items my mother bought me that I keep as she sometimes asks so I daren't return them to the charity shops she dragged them out of Grin

SummerRain · 10/06/2011 17:03

Oh... and i have the blood covered belt I was wearing when i was stabbed.

The blood is on the inside and it still looks great so yes, I wear it Blush

MargaretRutherford · 10/06/2011 18:42

I still wear a Breton top that someone gave me for my 18th birthday present...I am now 45. Amongst all the other clothes I can't bear to part with there is a pink starry t-shirt from Chelsea Girl that I wore for the Queen's Silver Jubilee dressed as a punk. I think I will wear it for the Diamond Jubilee.
