Why are all the slippers on sale so disgusting?!?!

Okay, so I need new slippers. I work from home so these things are on my feet all day, every day. I do NOT want manky pink towelling things to slop from bed into the bathroom and nothing else - I want a plain, comfortable slipper, with a supportive solid sole, and not too bright colours.

You wouldn't think I was alone, but so far a perusal of M & S, Debenhams, Clarks and Next websites suggest that such a think doesn't exist!

I quite like these but I don't want to pay £36 plus delivery really.

So tell me - does what I am looking for actually exist? A couple of years ago, it was quite easy to pop into M & S or Accessorize and get something reasonable, but I just can't find anything this year!

I tend to buy pairs of slippers from M&S - have you looked at their 'secret support' range - they really comfie, cost about £12 and have a very comfortable arch support in them. I've had slippers from Hotter before - they cost a bomb but are extremely comfortable. Probably the most comfie slipperrs I've ever had but they tend to cost up near the £40 mark.

whispywhisp · 17/03/2009 13:50

I've just looked at your link (must remember to do that before I post) and can see you've already found the Hotter ones!

moopymoo · 17/03/2009 13:52

I like the look of these here

Rindercella · 17/03/2009 14:04

I have these Probably don't meet any of your criterea, but they are lovely to look at, very comfortable and - best of all - have leather soles so don't leave nasty rubber marks all over my kitchen floor (anyone who knew me 20 years ago when I was a total slattern will be rofl hearing me say this now!).

Niecie · 17/03/2009 14:08

What about these from Lands End?

Not quite so solid looking but a lot cheaper than Hotter.

I think M&S still do the type you are after - I am wearing some - but they tend to have most of their slipper range in stock in the autumn, in time for Christmas and the cold weather. They tend to have less this time of year which is an improvement on the old days when you could only get slippers in the winters, so it seemed.

I'd suggest these from M & S except I can't see the soles. They may not be chunky enough.

barmshott -those hotter ones are vile..step away from the hotter site are you 85 yrs old!!!

lynniep · 17/03/2009 14:17

what about moshulu slippers? you can get them at our local garden centre (you know - the type that sells everything but the kitchen sink) and also online. Not cheap though but cheaper than the ones you mention.

brimfull · 17/03/2009 14:18

memory foam ones

Bramshott · 17/03/2009 14:48

Some good ideas here ladies - keep em coming!

I quite like the Moshulu Happy ones, or the beaded moroccan ones, but am worried about looking like a hippy!

Ggirl - very nearly !!

Haflinger boiled wool slippers, I have some in red, they are the slippers of my dreams, have proper sole so you can step outside if you need to

Rindercella · 17/03/2009 20:56

Sorry, for some reason I find the words "boiled wool slippers" really quite horrible

Bramshott · 18/03/2009 09:43

Okay, so I think my shortlist is:

Hotter ones @ £36 (sorry ggirl!)
Moshulu ones @ £24.99 (Happy or Desi)
Babouches @ £20

I know the Hotter ones are the prettiest of slippers to look at but if you are on your feet a lot during the day and need something comfortable and cost doesn't come into it I can't recommend Hotter enough. I've had a couple of pairs of theirs and they are lovely and extremely comfortable. I now wear M&S ones, simply due to cost, and they are nowhere near as good. Hotter ones last for ages and can go round the wash too.

Bramshott · 19/03/2009 09:15

Actually I think the Hotter ones are quite pretty ! I had nearly decided to get them yesterday when I found a 10% off and free postage voucher online, but that had expired on 9 March so now I'm back to umming and ahhing! Better do something soon though as my current slippers are really manky!

Slippers are fugly items full stop.

Those Hotter ones are heinous. Patchwork and applique flower

I do rather like the silver babouches though

Bluestocking · 19/03/2009 10:11

Second Myeye's vote for Haeflingers. They're fabulously comfy and you can wash them when they get cheesy. There's a grey pair on sale at the Natural Shoe Store but they do also stock them in fab colours.

shortcircuit · 19/03/2009 12:03

I'm a big fan of these "flyflot"

They are very comfortable & I've got queer feet with something going on with the arches. They do normally have better colours in the winter months, but a good starting point for the novice would be fly flot-er

Bramshott · 23/03/2009 14:37

Okay, well after much deliberation, I have ordered the Babouches in Lilac and am awaiting delivery. Thanks for all your help ladies!
