I am a funny shape.

It's a case of proportion. No matter what size I am, I have the following problems.

Skirts fit on bum and fabric stands proud in a sort of tube effect about 2 inches too big all up around the waist. Imagine an egg timer stuffed down a loo roll. That's what I look like.

Also the space between my crotch and waist is too long. Jeans and trousers, if fitting on the bum, never fit round the waist, mainly because the 'waist' on them is in fact around my hips/ widest point.

I have long suspected my body is deformed . But maybe I am just wearing the wrong shapes.

If anyone suffers similarly, and has overcome, please share tips.

Come on........post a piccie! Then we might be able to help.

MrsSeanBean · 16/03/2009 11:29

Oh good grief no, I'll spare you a pic!
I've measured the 'rise' I need and it's 11inches, and that would still be below natural waist.

I have same problem - have a small waist and large ass.. so anything fitting round bum is too sizes too large for waist..

So you have to wear certain shapes .. like

never pencil skirts or anything straight - look at kirsty Allsop - get skirts fitted to waist that flare out over hips - or wrap dresses as you can adjust fit to certain extent

Trousers have to be hipsters or mens jeans as they are cut lower so the fit is "shorter" and does not take account of the change in size in a longer style body or I find elasticated waisted loose fit linen trousers just about cope..

Thanks for that ZZ! Am I doomed to elastic waisted slacks though?!

How tall are you?

MrsSeanBean · 16/03/2009 11:36

Only 5ft 5.

Right, I was going to say that "tall lady" shops like Long Tall Sally tend to have a higher rise trouser. I'm 5ft 10 and their trousers are actually too long in the body for me.

Wonder if it's worth trying on "tall lady" jeans to see if they fit better, and then taking them up. New Look have a tall range.

MrsSeanBean · 16/03/2009 11:41

Yes I am a 'tall person' on the top with disproportinately short legs.

OP posts:
girlandboy · 16/03/2009 11:42

You're the exact opposite to me!

My legs are toooooooo long. I look like I'm wearing pedal pushers most of the time.

SoMuchToBits · 16/03/2009 11:43

Are you my twin sister? Probably not, as I don't think she posts on MN (not being a mother). But you sound as if you have exactly the same problems as me! I always find skirts/trousers either fit round the hips and are massive at the waist, or fit round the waist but really tight round the hips. And things which are labelled "natural waist" are slightly low-waisted on me, while ones labelled "low-waist" are ridiculous (display acres of flesh!)

The only solutions I have found are to buy "natural waist" trousers, and never a low -waisted style, and with skirts, try to buy ones in a more flared style, rather than straight ones which sit on your hips with a wide bit of fabric sticking up!

Don't know if this is much help, and I do find it very hard to find things to fit.

ZZMum · 16/03/2009 11:43

I am same - tall with short legs - am all body.. the other thing I have done is have stuff made.. not as expensive as you might think and having 3 pairs of trousers that fit (with a zip and not elastic) is a worthwhile investment ..

SoMuchToBits · 16/03/2009 11:45

I am also not that tall (5' 4") and have a long body and short legs. And also midget arms - I usually have to get sleeves on coats etc taken up by about 3 inches!

MrsSeanBean · 16/03/2009 11:48

I have midget arms too SMTB! We came out of the same mould, definitely.
