I think they would suit a narrow slim hipped shape.
Rules me out.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 14/03/2009 16:38

I like them but haven't tried one on yet. I think it would suit curvier women too. They would be good for days when you are feeling a bit bloated and want to wear a skirt but nothing too tight

mrsmalumbas · 14/03/2009 17:04

I did when they were in fashion around 1989, I was a size 8, had great legs, and was 21 years old.

Now I am 40+ and a size 16 I fear not. I suppose I could always turn one upside down and wear it as a bag on my head.

SenorToucan · 17/03/2009 14:39

.

RamblingRosa · 17/03/2009 14:57

I tried one in Dorothy Perkins and it just looked odd. I'm not sure it's about size (I'm tall and sz8)...they just look a bit weird. Kind of ok from the front but odd from the side.

SenorToucan · 19/03/2009 13:07

RIght I got one.
it was FAB

FigmentOfYourImagination · 19/03/2009 13:09

There is a gorgeous skirt on the French Connection website. I'm on a shopping ban so I'm resisting it but it would go with soooooooo much stuff in my wardrobe and I want it.

I heart it

sifuentes · 19/03/2009 13:28

I love tulip skirts - DP doesn't - but then he knows nothing of fashion

I don't think you need amazing legs (mine aren't unfortunately) you probably need a reasonably slim waist?

Not sure i think they are a very forgiving shape onceyou get over the fact that you are making your hips look wide on purpose

sifuentes · 19/03/2009 13:29

I am so impressed by Dotty P - they have some lovely ones there

womblingalong · 19/03/2009 13:31

I bet it suits you Toucan, you have hips but slim legs if I remember right, so bet it looks fab on you.

OrmIrian · 19/03/2009 13:33

I spent lots of hours running trying to get rid of my 'accomodating' hips. Why would I want to put false ones on?

Sazisi · 19/03/2009 13:34

This is on my need to try list!

I'm intrigued to know what SenorToucan's body-type is? Sorry, nosy
I don't fit ggirl's description. I'm more of an hourglass but hoping that will work anyway..

womblingalong · 19/03/2009 13:35

Beacause the shape makes it looks like the hips are from the skirt, not you, you are lovely and slim and several inches smaller round the hips than the skirt IYSWIM

stickylittlefingers · 19/03/2009 13:46

there is a girl in the office opposite mine who wears them - she has a nice figure but if you were being super harsh it is a bit pear shaped - but the tulip skirt she is wearing really accentuates the pearyness and looks dreadful, imo, compared with how nice she normally looks.

So I think perhaps pear shapes shouldn't go for them?

sifuentes · 19/03/2009 17:03

it's all a question of balance though - if she wore a pretty not too fitted blouse with it then it would look better. it's just bad to wear something very tight on top as then it can sometimes accentuate the pear type characteristics.

It's all about fruit and veg.

Unless I wear a long top with skinnies I resemble a parsnip...

SenorToucan · 19/03/2009 19:07

I heart wombling.
yes
the dropped waist thing ig good too
