Does anyone have a personal shopper?

I'm not posh or rich, I just hate shopping! I can't be bothered and don't really have the time. And if i do have time i'd rather spend it doing things other than shopping. But, i do desperately need some new clothes. I even have next directory etc at home and i can't be bothered to plough through it in the search for new clothes. I have a load of next/boden vouchers to spend, so i don't even have to spend any money, but i still can't be bothered. I just cannot abide clothes shopping. (Am I a complete freak?).

So does anyone have a personal shopper? Would they recommend it? How much do they cost? etc etc.

TIA

How much do you have in vouchers and what size and shape are you?

JeanPoole · 12/03/2009 17:18

no but i'd love one.
good for you

YeahBut · 12/03/2009 17:19

Well, I am an image consultant and do personal shopping for clients. Obviously, I'm going to say it's worth it! My clients are usually just like you - too busy or just hate shopping. I find out exactly what they want / need and we take it from there.

oneplusone · 12/03/2009 17:21

Just wanted to add, I want somebody who will go to the shops for me, whilst i stay at home.

BA, hi, I have about £50/Boden and £75/Next. Am willing to top up with cash if necessary as I need lots of stuff. Haven't shopped for about 5 years!

I'm a size 10,(in next/m&s, not top shop etc) big tummy, big boobs, small hips/bum, about 5'2" tall. I want a change from my usual of jeans/boots/black tops. I would like to go for some more feminine stuff but still needs to be practical and comfortable.

Hey, yeahbut, whereabouts are you located? And what do you charge? And what exactly do you do?

OP posts:
BonsoirAnna · 12/03/2009 17:23

How are you legs? Are you prepared to wear short(ish) skirts?

oneplusone · 12/03/2009 17:25

Hi BA. Legs are okish, but no, i don't like short skirts. Knee length or longer only. Please tell me you're going to trawl the shops and post me some links for new clothes!

Shop online, return if it doesn't fit. Run all purchases by the mumsnet style council first

Tbh £50 in Boden will not get you much, do they have a sale on? I never look tbh.

BonsoirAnna · 12/03/2009 17:31

How about this skirt from Boden?

OhBling · 12/03/2009 17:31

Yes yeahbut - tell us more. i've been toying with getting a personal shopper for some work wear...

BonsoirAnna · 12/03/2009 17:32

How about this skirt from Boden?

oneplusone · 12/03/2009 17:32

Thedevil, i can't be bothered to shop online. I want somebody to do all the trawling for me and narrow it down and then i can choose from their selection. I really, really, really hate shopping for clothes!

Then tell us your size, height, shape colouring etc and we will help, then you'll have more money to spend on clothes!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/03/2009 17:34

Oh sorry didn't see you'd already posted. I will trawl next for you after dinner. Then all you have to do is click to order.

YeahBut · 12/03/2009 17:36

Well, I'm not in the UK so not much use to you!
I usually work with clients who want to do a 'bulk' shop once or twice a year. We'll meet up beforehand to discuss their personal style and requirements and I'll go off and do some research. We'll then meet up and visit the shops that I think will meet their needs.
Most professional personal shoppers charge by the hour and costs will vary according to their experience and demand for their help.

BitOfFun · 12/03/2009 17:37

OP, please excuse me...Devil, check your email?

OhBling · 12/03/2009 17:39

Do you offer style advice based on body shape etc?

I was thinking about going to one of the department stores, but the problem is their work clothes tend to be expensive. Which is fine, but I think I'll wait until I've got the cash and won't have a heart attack when the women brings me two lovely outfits and I can only afford one.

But I'd like some ideas on how to be neat and professional but also a bit more stylish, while still in a size 16 body!

YeahBut · 12/03/2009 17:40

You really need to go to the shops to try stuff on!!

OhBling · 12/03/2009 17:42

Are you talking to me? In which case, yes, I know! But I want people to tell me WHAT to try on.

YeahBut · 12/03/2009 17:42

That was to the OP, not you OhBling!
Your size doesn't matter - your body shape does. What sort of job do you do and what's the dress code?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/03/2009 17:44

Squeal, checked and replied, now what to wear!?

(sorry for hijack op)

oneplusone · 12/03/2009 17:46

I don't want to go to the shops to try stuff on! I want somebody to trawl the shops/internet, get a load of stuff they think might suit me and then i can choose from that.

Yeahbut, a twice yearly bulk shop is what I would like to do. Do you know anyone in London who i could contact?

Trouble is i don't want designer gear, just ordinary clothes, do personal shoppers cater to my sort of shopper?

YeahBut · 12/03/2009 17:48

A personal shopper isn't a very good one if they don't cater to every kind of budget. Are you based in London?

OhBling · 12/03/2009 17:55

I work for a bank so tends to be pretty smart. I'm fairly good at finding decent suits - but my clothes are very boring, if neat and professional.

I have big norks - always have! but smaller bum and thighs in comparison to the rest of me. I have started losing weight so I do actually have a waist, but it's not tiny, just enough to show that I'm not square. My legs are pretty good and while I have a large chest, my shoulders and chest area are nicish.

I'm pretty good at buying every day suits etc that look appropriate - nicely tailored, v-necked, skirts on the knee etc, but just feel that I never find things that make me look more than just professional.

YeahBut · 12/03/2009 18:08

How about teaming up well tailored trousers with a fitted waistcoat rather than a jacket? Already much more on trend than a traditional suit. You can then make it look more edgy by choosing a more vibrant colour for the shirt underneath and adding a piece of bold, statement jewellery.
