What to wear on a long haul flight

I posted this on longhaul travel, but Thought I'd seek out the wisdom on style & beauty

Anyway, in the past, on flights to Majorca and the like, I dressed fro comfort, but felt I wasn't smart enough.

What would you wear on a longhaul flight which is practical, comfortable and also looks good?

ah see now I'm of the school of sod it, if its clean, comfy and doesn't look horrific then its just right - shall leave it to the experts!!

LittleMissBliss · 12/03/2009 16:24

I would wear a track suit! not very trendy but so comfortable.

LittleMissBliss · 12/03/2009 16:25

just wear what you feel comfortable in! You will only leave the plain creased and tired anyway.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 12/03/2009 16:28

Where are you off to?

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 12/03/2009 16:29

oh and are you flying with children in tow?

cariboo · 12/03/2009 16:31

Jersey material, non-crease, dark colour, flat & comfortable shoes. Smart but practical.

My parents travel nicely dressed & they almost always get upgraded.

Hi Flier

in my past life I used to work for an airline, so was fortunate to have travelled a number of long haul flights. I always use to roll up a pair of jogging pants, socks and T shirt to change into on the flight and then as we neared our destination I would change back into my "proper clothes" that way I didn't have to worry about creasing/spilages etc!

Where are u flying to? I am {envy}

CMOTDibbler · 12/03/2009 16:45

I do lots of longhaul. My current favourite is a long cord skirt, jersey top and cardi plus ballet flats. Pair of cosy socks in my bag for on the plane.

It is also just about the only time I feel panty liners come into their own too. This may be TMI.

andiem · 12/03/2009 16:46

I always take tracky bottoms socks and long sleeve t shirt then get changed on the plane

LetThemEatCake · 12/03/2009 20:28

cashmere & cotton. voila
agree re panty liners!!!!

DSM · 12/03/2009 20:31

Panty liners?

Explain!

LetThemEatCake · 12/03/2009 20:36

Changing your panty liner every few hours or whatever spares you that gakky 'been wearing the same skanky nicks for hours' feeling without the actual need to change yer nicks, y'see?

also a good tip for glastonbury

CMOTDibbler · 12/03/2009 20:58

That's the one - I find the sitting down for long periods seems to make things a lot worse in the skanky pants department too. A panty liner and a Femfresh wipe makes you feel like people won't be running from you in horror.

I like to brush my teeth before I get on the plane, and then get off the other end, head for the nearest loo and brush teeth/hair, slap on more moisturiser/eye cream/lip gloss, and then brave the immigration queue. Somehow it makes it all much more bearable

Ronaldinhio · 12/03/2009 21:04

Smart jersey yoga pant style trousers
long sleeved t-shirt
wrap top
smart jacket
ballet flats
bring pashmina/socks
decent cleanser/ serum/ moisuriser/handcream
spacenk will provide nearly everything in sachets for you for the flight
wax ear plugs

Rollmops · 12/03/2009 21:18

My 'long haul uniform' for years was a white fitted T-shirt, gray extra-extra soft cashmere jumper, beige slightly stretchy über-cpmfortable straight leg trousers, always pair of Tod's, the best flat shoes ever. Sunglasses and a large tote to keep all your goodies.

Flier · 13/03/2009 07:43

Thanks very much everyone, and I will be travelling with two dcs (5 and nearly 3) in tow. Going to Florida. first time.
LetThemEatCake Thise trousers look nice, what are they like for sizes? I have a small size 10 waist but big bum and saddlebags

LetThemEatCake · 13/03/2009 08:25

how much time do you have before you fly? Pyjama room do free returns so I'd probably order a 10 and a 12 and then send the unwanted pair back?
I am with you on the small waist/ big bum combo ...

Flier · 13/03/2009 08:32

plenty of time, LTEC, early May we fly, I may try that, thanks.

ninedragons · 13/03/2009 09:55

Yoga pants
Clogs so you can slip them off in your seat but put them on to go to the skanky loo.
Cotton socks (but my mum is always nagging me to wear my DVT socks)
T-shirt
Cashmere cardigan
Pashmina

If you are travelling with young DCs don't forget to pack a change of clothes for you as well as for them in case they chuck on you.
