Ideas for layering up for a spring holiday in the UK (in a caravan!)?

I am going on holiday for five days to a caravan park, its a Haven one and it is in two weeks time. I have got some converse to wear with jeans so was thinking that would do me for day time then take ballet pumps for dinner or whatever in case we go somewhere a bit smarter. Or maybe I should take my long flat boots?

Anyway my real issue is that I might be cold as I live in a city and don't own much in the way of really warm clothes. I was thinking layering is the way to go and I have cardigans and tops that I always wear but maybe I need something a bit warmer but that would still fit under a light ish jacket. Anyone seen anything like that about? Ideally it needs to be very warm but not too thick, no hood and not cost too much.

Get a merino wool long sleeved vest and wear it under everything. Very toasty.

Howies do lovely ones.

Ooh I love some of that, had never heard of them before. Bit out of my price range sadly. Thats the sort of thing though if its very warm because its nice and thin. Wonder if there is a cheaper version?

my camping-chic look involves an awful lot of layering. in fact thinking about it that's why i've worn the leggings/trousers/dress combo constantly ever since the last time it was fashionable

howies are luvverly but v expensive - any long sleeve top will do, but i guess proper thrmals are prolly what you're after. there's a lot of cheapish trendyish pointelle around the high st lately but it goes out of shape really easily so i'd look for something better on ebay.

Ebay is a good plan, any names I should be looking out for? I have got loads of long sleeved cotton tops that go under things but wasn't sure if they'd do the job? Could do with something to pull on over top but under my coat as an extra layer too really, all I've got atm is a hoody which obviously doesn't really work! Any other tips for staying warm? Mybe I need jogging bottoms for in the caravan?

tbf i've never camped in a caravan, just a camper which is waaaay colder than a tent. unless it's height of summer i usually wear leggings, vest, longsleeve in sleeping bag, and if cold add trackie bottoms, fleece, socks and hat. but i am nesh

i'd be looking under skiwear on ebay.

for thermals that is - i wouldn't wear salopettes unless it was really cold (although actually salopettes are our standby camping/festival clothing for small children, nighttimes and early mornings).

Oh am scared about getting cold! I keep my flat really really warm because its the kind of place that only needs the heating on five minutes before it gets sweltering! The caravan has got heating in the living room, not the bedrooms though. Right, so lots of long sleeved tops to wear under everything including pjs! Better take lots of socks too.

Oh no, I don't even know what salopettes are, I am a lost case! DD has got lots of warm stuff luckily and will probably share a bed with me so at least that will be slightly warmer.

You will be frigging cold in bed unless they bedrooms are heated. Take extra blankets, take fleece pjs for everyone and thick socks. To sleep in. Seriously.

We were colder at night than we ever got in the day!

I would take wellies rather than converse, and your long black boots. This is MARCH.

You need a thickish fleece jumper, and you may need gloves, hat and scarf. the coast is windy and cold!

used2bthin · 10/03/2009 22:32

Oh I am scared now! Ok got fleece pjs, will wear long boots to travel in and take converse in case its warmer than expected. Forget ballet pumps. I visited the friend I am going with in Edinburgh in October and was hideously under dressed, I took ballet pumps and heels (this was pre DD so lots of nights out) he had said bring warm clothes and I under estimated just how uch colder it would be so mustn't do the same this time. Hate being cold at night. It is a Haven site so I think mostly pathways rather than grass and mud (I hope). Fleece jumper sounds good, needs to be thin ish though, any ideas?

Ps yes definately will get a hat, I've never worn one outdoors let alone in but I bet they make a big difference.
