mused my guy and me today. All they seem to do is straighten it within an inch of its life.

Ah.... my hairdressers were doing this. Untill I mentioned I wanted to look like Cheryl Cole. Now I get lucious waves.

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 18:16

yes i said I wanted sexy luscious waves too!

My hairdresser (toni and guy) hates straighteners and gives a fab blow dry instead. She says straighteners wreck your hair.

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 18:18

Yes mine has said he is going to ban them.

I have never had a hairdresser use straighteners on my hair. Always a proper blow-dry.

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 18:31

Wow, is that hair style Hungarian?!

There are some extremely fashion concious Hungarians I will have you know! The WAG look is very big here.

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 20:23

I bet,
IN Finland anyone over 30 BY LAW has to haev purpley dyed hair and very odd glasses.

Oh there is def a trend towards a certain purply red here too.

In Bulgaria there is a red that lots of people have - it is apparently a locally made cheap dye that they could get hold of during communism and they have stuck with it!

I used to get an amazing blow dry at Neville Daniel years ago, but they went defunct to be replaced with the slightly-too-flash-for my-liking Richard Ward.

I have never had a 'curly blow dry' as such - how do they manage that - just twist around a radial brush? Sounds like a recipe for disaster with my tangle [worried emoticon].

Jewelsandgems · 06/03/2009 10:36

I get straightened in an over the top way and cannot wait to get home and wash it. And agree that the blowdries nowadays (if you do ask for one) are crap. Mine usually involves a paddle brush, very lank hands (as in hair envs up looking crap and fluffy) or the dreaded half vent brush type thing which gives me hair static. You can imagine a bad blow dry on my kate moss fringe it is scary!

Penthesileia · 06/03/2009 10:38

Toni & Guy to their patented "twisty flicky" (apparently that's the name it goes by! ). Always looks nice, IMO.

Penthesileia · 06/03/2009 10:38

do not to.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 06/03/2009 10:45

Blow drying as far as i'm aware has been taken out of the NVQ hairdressing sylubus

i trained 6 years ago and apparently we were the last batch that was going to have blowdrying as an element in the course.

It should be taught when you do salon placement though and each salon/stylist will have different approaches

i'm not saying this is gospel mind you, just what i got told by my tutors.

Straighteners are bad for your hair!!! use them as little as possible i say. but then again all heat to the hair damages it to a cretain extent. everything in moderation

DrewPWiener · 06/03/2009 16:26

NO not on the syallbus?
that is a disaster.
I think straightening is a cop out

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 06/03/2009 18:50

apparently so, again like i said thats what i was told by my tutors (i may be wrong) and yes it is a bit, why do a cut/ coulour that you cant finish of with a fab blow dry?? i dont understand why they would cut it out it seems essential to me.

But again if you work within a good salon they will teach you how to do it to their standards.

TsarChasm · 06/03/2009 18:56

Drew - Well said!

I paid £40 just before Christmas for what turned a dreadful haircut but also 'rough dry' that made me look like a Edward Scissorhands then a half hearted scrape through with some straighteners which I don't even use as part of my hairstyle.

It was appalling! And that was by the senior stylist who ownes the salon My 7 yr old does my hair better.

But yes the straighteners bit really annoys me.
