These days my work "style" is decentish trews/skirt plus T-shirt top with smart cardi over.(My tooters are too massive for blouses at - 30J- and I'm not very tall - 5ft - so can't do blouses. Also hate ironing!). Am sorted for skirts/trousers and cardis but really struggling to find very high quality T-shirts which wash and wash and wash. Ideally need a scoop neck and 3/4 sleeves. Gap is OK but doesn't last very well.Michael Stars from Whistles are the best I've found so far but they are One-size fits all so on me the scoop is quite racy for work and the colour range is small. Don't mind paying silly-ish prices if they really do last. Any ideas.

Top Shop have some fab basic but smart t-shirt tops. Absolutely suitable for work. They are more a fine knit jersey than "cotton t-shirt" , iyswim. I have 4 in different shades and am just about to order 2 more. They wash really well but I hang them to dry rather than risk the dryer.

here

If you want them in different colours you need to pick them individually from the general "basic long sleeve tops" page (they don't come up saying "also available in....")

Esprit clothing have some lovely tops in the sale at the moment. I buy a lot of their clothes and find they wash well and look nice as well.

Sorry am unable to do links as crap at that sort of things.

Uniqlo. I have loads of their long sleeved and three quarter sleeved T shirts in a variety of colours and neck shapes. They was beautifully and wear incredibly well.

Second vote for uniqlo - thier on-line service is amazing, delivery often next day.

dexter73 · 06/03/2009 07:39

I have just had a look at the Uniqlo site and they don't seem to have any scoop neck tops in at the moment

ihatethecold · 06/03/2009 10:18

zara have some nice ones in their basics range

nailpolish · 06/03/2009 10:23

bravissimo have some good tops for those who have big tits - im a 30FF and i never used to wear shirts as they always gaped at the buttons - but bravisiimo have designed their shirts to accomodate this problem HOORAY
im 5ft tall too

also try monsoon and hobbs

do you wear petite clothes? i find the necks not so low

why do you like scoop neck? i find v neck better

nailpolish · 06/03/2009 10:26

principles petite are good but their website is down just now

wallis is quite good too

Breedinglikeone · 08/03/2009 20:57

I know that V necks are meant to be better, and all my big norked mate swear by them, but on me they just look a bit - I don't know - witchy and bizarre somehow! They seems to funnel everything in the wrong direction and look a bit strange - maybe because my norks are by now so droopy that they are located nowhere near the V and just flap about randomly - the scoop necks seem to soften this disaster somehow.. Hmm. Maybe am deluding self - will try some V necks on again!

at your last post, breedinglikeone. I know what you mean! Perhaps we need new bras?!

janeite · 08/03/2009 21:01

I like square necked tops, the ones that sort of scoop down in a square shape if that makes sense. Unfortunately you don't see them very often but they are far more flattering on me than v or scoop necks.

M&S Ltd Collection or Autograph often do good quality scoop necks - far better quality than their normal t-shirt range but unfortunately generally only available in black or white.

blithedance · 08/03/2009 21:10

Hobbs ones are good, I have a couple of scoop neck cotton elastene t-shirts going strong after 5 years. The neckline is good, not too high or low. They come up very small though, I'm not far off your size and the M was tight, tight, tight.

Various scoop necks here

slackrunner · 08/03/2009 21:11

Kew does great scoop next T-shirts.

Lilymaid · 08/03/2009 21:14

Kettlewell Colours has a vast range of T-shirt tops - must be something there ...

Breedinglikeone · 09/03/2009 21:28

Love the look of Kettlewell colours (although dull dull name! Kettlewell?!) Lilymaid - what are the sizes like? Do you have any?

Hmm. V tempted by a small 3/4 sleeve scoop. Off to vouchers to see if anyone can get me a bargain Kettle-T. Shall report back, for all you big floppy norkers out there...

Please report back- this is the holy grail for me!

JulesJules · 09/03/2009 22:16

I was going to say Kettlewell as well. They have a bit of lycra in them which means they keep their shape a lot better than the cheapo £7 cotton M&S ones, great choice of colours, neckline, sleeve length etc etc.

Breedinglikeone · 14/03/2009 19:39

KETTLEWELL REPORT!!!
So - I got three. One scoop and one square neck (in the sale!), all with 3/4 sleeves.Website and service very good. Product not really what I was after and I will be returning them. The fabric is quite nice - a fairly light weight cotton/lycra but seems to cling to those little lumps and bumps rather than having any real shape of its own. The colours are a bit "M&S classic" IYKWIM, and the edging of the neckline is also just a bit uninspiring. Having said all this though - I would actually keep them as I am not looking for cutting edge fashion for work and usually wear a cardi - BUT the sleeves are set in a really strange way and give me a sort of wing under the armpit. I think this might be because my back is quite narrow...If you remember the beginning of this crazy thread - small back big norks is the problem. Sadly, for me, Kettlewell is not the solution. HTH.
Lets keep searching.
