Need trousers for thin almost 3 year old dd

DD will be three in May. She is a bit smaller than average and quite thin. I am finding it impossible to get trousers to fit her now that she is out of nappies as 2-3 years is too big for her but smaller seem to allow room for a nappy and are also too big on top althought a good fit on the leg. I tried Jojo Maman Bebe after a recommendation here and the ones I got are lovely but neither the 2-3 or 18-24 month fit her properly. She needs mostly cotton as she has eczema and skirts are out til the weather improves as tights make her itchy. Any suggestions? Does anyone know of brands that are small fitting?

My DD has always been the same. I have a few sets of braces which help. H&M do skinny fit trousers, not sure about the cotton content though.

We hasd the same problem.H&M and Zara are good because they have the elastics pull ins at the side of jeans etc

MmeLindt · 01/03/2009 15:58

I look for trousers with adjustable waists. Tesco often has them as does Next. I often buy them for DD as she is a skinny wee thing. I am not sure of the cotton content of them either.

You could try some of the German companies, like Jakoo as they tend to be very keen on natural fibres in Germany.

yes H&M slim fit as the posters said below. They are the only trousers that fit slim dd too!

MmeLindt · 01/03/2009 16:01

Jako-O

You can stitch elastic into them yourself too, it doesn't take long and can be removed or lengthened when needed

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/03/2009 16:02

O and we have bought linen trousers from la redoute in the past with a tie waist.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 16:05

I know, DWP. My mum has been going on at me to do it myself for years!!

claireybeemine · 01/03/2009 16:08

DD was given some from QS that fit her quite well. They are cheapo though so not sure of cotton content...

GAP are often slimmer fitting than most. In fact DD who is usually too small for most stuff now suddenl can't wear them as they seem to cut sizes 2 and onwards assuming there will be no nappy!(dd is still in them)

YesSirICanBoogie · 02/03/2009 11:04

Gap trousers seem to have small waists. Their sizes are all a bit strange however.

Elasticated waist trousers from Next fit my slim dd's quite well. My children never got on well with the adjustable waisted trousers from Gap or Mini-Boden. They found the button in the inside of the waistband too itchy. My dd's have never enjoyed wearing jeans either because they do not find them comfortable, and because they are often too big on the waist.

womblingalong · 02/03/2009 11:29

I have this problem, my 4.5 yr old dd is still wearing a 9-12 months skirt! I found that H&M did some elasticated belts that also helped to keep trousers or skirts up, and I found Zara and Gap cut quite narrow too.

Mercy · 02/03/2009 11:37

My dd has always been like this too.

As others have said, look out for trousers with adjustable waists

Mothercare
Next
M&S

French brands are often cut on the slim side

H&M, Zara and Gap work well on my skinny 2 and a half year old DD (weighs less than 10kg). Gap is the only place where she is consistently in the right size for her age. She is still wearing some 6-9 month legging that I bought her last summer from Mothercare - they're just knee length now! All three of H&M, Gap and Zara have the pull in waists which we find much the best solution.

I also got a couple of elasticated belts in Zara that are really useful.

FlyMeToDunoon · 02/03/2009 11:42

Gap are good and you can get slimfit in some styles
Boden sweatpants fit my DD really well
Try leggings. I got DD3's from Next or Sainsbury's.

I hate the adjustable waists as they have to be pulled in so much that there is a big bunched up bit around the waist.
