what kind of skincare for a pimply nearly eleven year old?

My daughter is nearly eleven and is starting to get the odd spot, sometimes a few under her skin and what looks like the beginning of blackheads on her nose. Shall I start her off with a cleansing, toning and moisturising regime or a face wash or something?

My DS is in exactly the same position - I got him Nivea Young face scrub and some Simple face wash which he uses on alternate days. Can't persuade him to moisturise (not surprising I suppose). It's really depressing that it looks like he will have the same blocked pores that have plagued me to this day

I started my dd on Liz earle's cleanse and polish .
You need ot be careful that you don't over clean and scrub the skin because it will just over produce oil then and cause more spots.
I would just encourage the use of a good cleanser, maybe a flannel or muslin cloth to wipe off cleanser to help gently exfoliate too.
Don't fall for the very abrasive scrubs they advertise for teenage skin.

ggirl - are you in the business as it were? I just wonder if having blocked pores / blackheads is an inevitability / genetic or if there is anything at all one can do to make sure they don't get blocked in the first place. Beacuse once blocked always blocked IME

(apologies for shameless hijack chanelcandy!)

My DD uses clean and clear and it works very well, especially around her nose and chin. She uses it with cotton wool, and prefers it to a face wash, but obv that is just her preference.

No worries, I think my DD's inherited my skin too. Thanks to both of you for your advice, I was thinking of a flannel and a cleanser as well so might do that.

willali-no just yrs of experience

blackheads will not disappear with a cleanser like the adverts make out. They do need to be gently squeezed out without using grubby fingers and as gently as possible to avoid scarring the skin.
Some teens are going to get spots and blackheads no matter what you do.A good routine of cleansing will help and if the spots become acne a trip to the GP is in order as there are treatments that work.
