Please tell me what to wear for my body shape this summer

OK, I have:
good shoulders
OK breasts but no cleavage
variable stomach
lumpy hips
good BUT bluey-white legs ...

All winter I've been wearing mainly shortish dresses with opaque tights, or A-line tunics with skinny jeans - things that skim over my lumpy bits and show off my assets. I like winter from a fashion point of view!

Last summer I bought a few dresses, but fake tanning my legs never really worked for me. I'd like to strike the right balance between too covered up/too exposed - what should I try?

i'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff but i think these days good legs are good legs, being 'blue white' isn't the shameful thing it used to be thanks to pale and proud Dita Von Teese et al...

So you could probably carry on with the smock style dresses and swap tights for wedges... i'm sure someone with some style sense will come along soon though!

and good shoulders would suggest wide strapped sundress type things, maybe with a squarish neckline..?

oh and i loathe fake tan so i'm bound to say chuck the horrid stuff away and be proud of your whiteness. as long as it's exfoliated, moisturised, SPFd of course!

Can you swap skinny jeans for skinny 3/4 length jeans/trousers and sandals or flats? The top would need to be something A-line as with winter but in lightweight material.

why not leggings flip flops and said floaty tops?

RumMum · 27/02/2009 18:51

how tall are you franch... (need tip for myself too!)

How about something like this? With gladiator sandals for day, heels for night
www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=X43&p=182&s=4&n=Women&pid=447-769&exclude=00AI00%7c00A00 the print should move the eye away from any lumpy bits and will show off nice legs.

This is also rather nice for day
www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=X43&p=168&s=4&n=Women&pid=394-923&exclude=00AI00%7c00A00

And then there is this dress (again next) that is always sold out in the most common sizes
www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=X43&p=10052&s=1&n=Women&pid=431-756&exclude=00AI00%7c00A00 although I have seen it in RL and it is really nice.

Now, not sure how you like boden, but I like a few things in S/S collection
www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/Womens-Dresses/Dresses/WH144/Womens-Floaty-Day-Dress.html

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/Womens-Dresses/Tunics-and-Kaftans/WL486/Womens-Silk-Cotton-Tunic.html

This looks flattering to most I think
www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/Womens-Dresses/Dresses/WH148/Womens-Double-Layer-Jersey-Dress.html

Now they are all dresses, but there is always the option of coloured skinny jeans, or white ones, and one of the gorgeous kimono-style tops that are so hot right now.
I have this, and it is super-flattering
www.oasis-stores.com/fcp/product/Oasis/Dresses/Printed-border-flower-dress/3170054900 you can wear it now with black tights, and wear it in summer too with bare legs, or whatever.

Any of these interesting?

franch · 28/02/2009 12:19

Ooh thanks everyone. Not sure about baring my legs, totalmisfit - my skin really isn't Dita-esque ...

Waiting4 - that's probably exactly right. I don't think I'd feel the need to fake tan if it was just my lower calves showing!

bish I'm not sure about leggings in summer - I wear black ones a lot in winter but they wouldn't feely summery enough, and I'm not sure about any other colour. In fact, I always wear them with boots

RumMum - I'm 5'7", what about you?

Thanks so much for doing the links jewels. Thing is I don't seem to suit things that have a seam under the bust - they seem to cling in the wrong places. Also dresses on the knee always look so frumpy on me! That 1st Next one looks great on the model but I'd look terrible in it. That's my problem really - I need to show more of my legs in order to feel reasonably youthful, but I'm just not happy with baring them completely - which I guess is where the skinny cropped jeans come in. I have white full-length skinnies, and coloured ones are a great idea too.

Thanks all - really appreciate it
