What would I wear to this? I've been dying to go to a burlesque night so want to look the part.

Dont usually venture to this topic but saw the title. The burlesque nights ive heard off have a smart dress code and have specifed glamourus attire for women. I'll have a look at pics i have and give you an idea of what some guests have worn. Could i be so cheeky as to ask where your going to the burlesque?

gscrym · 26/02/2009 20:25

It's in Edinburgh.

Feather boa? Some kind of can can outfit? Depends how far you want to go - heels, fishnets, basque and frilly french knickers if the one I went to was anything to go by (I was not wearing such things).

sounds wonderful - do you particpate and learn routine or just dress up?

shelleylou · 26/02/2009 20:26

Sorry just wanted to be nosy as a relative of mine runs burlesque nights hasnt ventured to scotland yet though

gscrym · 26/02/2009 20:34

Google Club Noir for the one run in Glasgow. I'm not sure of the details of where we're going in Edinburgh.

I'd like to go as far as my wobbliness will allow for dressing up. Corsets, etc. Will draw a line at the knickers though, don't have the confidence for that.

Have you looked at www.fairygothmother.co.uk, they usually have some lovely stuff.

gscrym · 27/02/2009 07:13

I have but they're very expensive. I would love something from them, the clothes are so beautiful.

noir doesn't have a very strict dress code, i would recommend 40s inspired (little hats, evening gloves if possible) does the night itself have a theme? (they do sometimes) when is it? how much time do we have to plan?

gscrym · 27/02/2009 07:53

The hen hight is the 9th of May. That's all I really know and that it's burlesque. I had found a corset seller on e-bay and the stuff looks lovely. I'll find a link so that I can get advice.

How about this outfit? Outfit aside, I love the whole idea of the glamour and dressing up side of it. I'm the least glamourous person I know, I live in jeans and trainers.

Oh god how horrendous. This would make my teth itch

gscrym · 27/02/2009 08:05

Is it that bad, I'll go have a hunt around for other ideas. Everything on Ebay for burlesque seems to involve PVC apart from the corsets.

I think all hen nights and particulalry THEMEd Ones scream "naff" to me

gscrym · 27/02/2009 08:13

Oh it's the hen night that you don't like. I understand now. I suppose each to their own and I don't go out very often so I'm happy to get invited to anything.
