If you had half a day in London to choose a bride's outfit, where would you go?

Am helping a friend to shop for a bride outfit soon - we have half a day in London! She's looking for something in the style and price range of Monsoon.

Where, geographically, would be a good place to go to make the most of the time we have?

Oxford Circus

I don't know what monsoon prices are like but try Debenhams and BHS (mine was £33 in debenhams sale )

Department store - Selfridges is my fave. If you don't find anything there you've got loads of other chain stores and more exclusive stores nearby (Oxford Street, Bond Street, South Molton Street, Regent Street etc). You could always take out a store card and splash out a bit....

Selfridges is a good call - I hadn't thought of there!

go on, take out a store card and go to the champagne bar! it will be lovely

If you want max shops in min time then definitely Oxford St department stores.

Start with Selfridges, then come back down to earth with Debenhams, House of Fraser and John Lewis, all in a 2 mile stretch.

There is also a Monsoon in the same stretch which has a wedding section.

If her price range is Monsoon-ish then how about trying Coast? They have lovely dresses for just a little bit more.

I'm sure there is a row of bride shops somewhere in London, can't remember where though.

theyoungvisiter · 26/02/2009 19:03

There's a stretch in Knightsbridge I think, but they are very pricey, 3k plus just to start.

If you have any time left there is a v stupid but quite fun shop in Tottenham Court Road called Confetti which is full of things like make-your-own invitations and table favours.

Oooh. Champagne bar in Selfridges. We're undone already!

Coast is a good idea - is Oxford Street good for that?

I don't think we're looking for traditional wedding dresses by the way - just very a nice Monsoon-style dress that you'd wear as a guest to a smart wedding. I've seen that stretch in Knightsbridge when I was looking for myself - dream on!

I'd forgotten about Confetti! Great idea for a bit of fun.

I'm pretty sure there is a Coast concession in John Lewis Oxford St, and I think also House of Fraser and possibly Selfridges too?

I agree, with starting at Oxford Circus, I would walk up towards Selfridges, so you are going cheap to expensive so you can access what's best value, taking in BHS, Monsoon , Debenhams and Marks and Spencer to check out their bridal ranges then go to Selfridges.

Ladyface · 26/02/2009 21:41

You could detour down Bond St on the way and check out Pronovias.

Chiltern Street (sort of behind Selfridges) used to have loads of weddingy type shops in all price ranges. Not sure how many of them are still there though.
