Bras for larger ladies.

I am struggling to find any bras at all. I am a 42DD and I can't seem to find any. Bravissimo do 42D and 42E but not 42DD.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

it is accurate to measure under your bust, that is what your are. You then just have to start, with cups.

R + P only do it by eye cos they see that many boobs/shapes that they can tell.

its the formulas which are wrong.
How can a formula tell exactly how big your boobs are? i f you measure across your fullest part, you might well have 'long boobs' that sit further down your rib cage, you might have wider spaced boobs,. there are so many coonatotions and degrees of measurement.

If you measured your self at say a 34, right, and had no clue what your cup size was you just start at a and work your way up!!! till you find the 'cup' that your boob fits nicely into.

AVOID springy backs, mesh types, stretchy cups. Go for rigidity, and the thickest straps. This all = support.

Ample Bosom is good for your size. But you need to order a few different sizes and return what doesn't fit and don't go by the charts. Some of the cheaper brands aren't even consistant within their own sizes, eg if you try on two different styles in the same size they will be different (M&S are particularly crap for that I find).

I find that I am a back size smaller and a cup size bigger than the charts say I should be. A few years ago I found a brand (Empreinte) that just fits me perfectly and I only ever buy that brand now as their sizing is always the same across all the styles and they last really well and don't lose elasticity. They are twice as much as a cheap bra but they last more than twice a long and I keep an eye on what's in the bargain box on Ample Bosom and order my size if I see it discounted.

piratecat · 27/02/2009 11:23

just to say, that the measurement under your bust is accurate.

mmj, the cup size you wuold get form one of those formulas gave you

46dd, i bet the cup fitted ok?

46dd is equal to

44e

42f

40g

38h

36g

so the bra size you are wearing is almost spot on, and was dependent on the style and your overall shape.

Yes women would go ruond in a 44e becuase their boobs fitted in the cup, but the back/band (on you) would be up round your neck!! The problem lies with the basic fact that most bra's or companies don't make bras' in enough range of lower rib sizes.

Even those with smaller rib/back sizes get the same problem.

I was wearing a 36 c when i started at Rigby,as basically m+s didnt do any other size like a 34d (yrs back) so i had to get bra that my boob fitted into.

as it tunred out i was 32dd.

36 c
34 d
32 dd all have the same, cup size. if you held one over the other the cups would be the same size, only the band is getting larger. that's how sizing works.

lol, well there you are you are the boob lady!!

42 f
38 g
36 h

all more or less the same. when you 'get' the way the sizing works is is a revelation. It's a secret noone let us in on, and it is extremely liberating.

kayzr · 27/02/2009 14:03

I live in Pickering North Yorkshire.

Underbust is 38 inches and fullest part is 43 inches.

42DD is what I was told when I got measured about 6 weeks ago but she didn't have any in stock and still hasn't.

Kayzr - the Leeds one is really good (they even let me bf ds as he was starving before refitting for a bf bra!)

When I lose weight I do lose some of my rather ampleness - but not that much - and have been known to go down to a 30 H (!)

?Train from Malton - not quite so long, Bravisimo within walking distance of the train station....

kayzr · 27/02/2009 15:16

I can't afford it. I can just about afford 1 bra because DH has been laid off. I can't justify going to Leeds for a bra fitting.

mistlethrush · 27/02/2009 15:24

No, I can sympathise - dh's company went under in Jan so he didn't get any pay for Jan, any redundancy or any notice... I'm working ft for the moment to try to make up a bit.

Can you measure underneath your bust in a horizontal line - it sounds as though several people on this thread have quite a bit of knowledge and might be able to help with a more accurate size. I found that the back went up if I had the wrong size - even though the cup fitted fine. Its better to go down a back size or two so that the back stays horizontal and likewise increase a cup size or two - much more comfortable once you've got used to it.

kayzr · 27/02/2009 16:43

My underbust measurement is 38 inches. But I thought you had to add 4 inches.

Right I went and tried on one of my old 38DD from before DS2 and they fit but the cup is far too small and the wire is really digging in. So I'll order a F and FF and see what is going on.

Thanks ever so much. I never realised that I was given the wrong measurements. When DH gets a new job I'll go to bravissimo.

another point.

leano ver and make sure your boobs are completetly in the cup. when you stand up, draw the strap back over you shoulder, and tighten so it's not slack.

a slack strap ain't good.

mmj is right, the add four inches is a pile of pants. It stems back to when maufacturers didn't make the size range.

yes your boob would fit in the cup of a bra band that would now be 4 inches to big for you iyswim, but the band would be up round your ears!!

god luck let us know how you do. what bra have you ordered.

kayzr · 28/02/2009 11:51

I've gone for this one. I've ordered a 38F and 38FF.
