advise me on make up please. I suspect I may be stuck in a rut

I hardly ever wear make up (indeed have only just thrown away my wedding make up that I've been using for the last 4 years!!!!!) so need help on colours of eyeshadow in particular. I have dark hair, olivey skin, green eyes. Would like to buy some eye make up for day wear and something more sparkly for going out. So what will suit me /modernise me?

Go to a good beauty counter and have a makeover and buy the products that you like. Benefit is fab.

benefit, ok. Am always a bit nervous of the make up sales women, they are so orange and wear so much make up. 4 year old make up is dreadful isn't it, I chucked them when I realised most things had a shelf life of 12 months! (disclaimer, the mascara was much newer)

I would advise going to a bobbi brown counter
they do a much more natural look than some of the orange ones
MAC and benefit are good as well though

maybe get your self done up then buy one basic and get some ideas of what colours suit you from them

I also have really old makeup and am still alive.
some of my eye pencils are ancient
