Hi,
I've been looking for a new spring coat and found these two

I really can't decide which one so wondered what you all thought?

Love no.2 in the pink

B1984 · 25/02/2009 13:18

no 2!
no 1 too plain

BonsoirAnna · 25/02/2009 14:00

No 2

HappyHome · 25/02/2009 14:12

You seem to be confirming what I was thinking!
I think the price was making me consider no. 1 as its half the price of no.2, but its no.2 that I like best! Will order it in stone though, as much as I love the pink it would clash with my hair
Thanks

what colour would you like?

nailpolish · 25/02/2009 14:16

green?

nailpolish · 25/02/2009 14:17

white

nailpolish · 25/02/2009 14:18

blue

HappyHome · 25/02/2009 14:19

Why not stone?
Like the green Hobbs one though!

stone is dull

you will feel a million times better in a bright colour than a dull one

HappyHome · 25/02/2009 14:27

Ok what about www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/Womens-Outfit-Ideas-2.html

(Gets ready for Boden comments....)

how about this - bit cheaper than Hobbs one!

nailpolish · 25/02/2009 14:38

the hobbs ones are the nicest

KristinaM · 25/02/2009 17:53

i agree with nailpolish - stone is boring

cut of pink mac in Op will only work if you have no tummy or hips

Nontoxic · 25/02/2009 18:03

The Crew Clothing mac is a prettier style, but it might expand your waistline - as would the double-breasted styles.

If stone is a good colour for you, it doesn't have to be boring - you could always wear bright scarves with it.

And the pink would be 'obvious' - I'd feel like people were saying 'oh, she's got that pink coat on again' - but that's probably because I'd wear it nearly every day.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 25/02/2009 18:15

I would go for a brighter colour rather than stone. All my favourite coats (ie the ones I actually wear) are bright colours (have deep pink, red and green). I own a stone coloured trench and a stone coloured summer jacket and they rarely get worn.

I like the fact that no matter what you are wearing beneath, you put your coat on and you look like you've made an effort

Nontoxic · 25/02/2009 19:37

That's exactly how I feel about coats, MrsJS - and if I had lots I'd definitely have bright colours.

It's just that any coat I get tends to be 'my coat,' iyswim, so I don't want it to be too obvious that I pretty much wear the same one all season!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 25/02/2009 21:26

Well if it helps, my winter coat is the deep pink one (the other two are spring/autumn jackets). I wear my pink coat pretty much every day of the winter except for when its pouring with rain/snow. I ring the changes with different scarves and of course it will look different according to whether you have jeans or skirt beneath, heels or flats.

Think about it, most women wear the same coat every day. And if we don't notice that its because they are in "safe" colours.

I say go for it. I always dressed in safe colours that would go with everything. I changed that a year ago and I haven't looked back.

Nontoxic · 25/02/2009 21:46

That's a fair point.

Maybe I'll re-think my policy on coats.

I actually do wear strong colours otherwise; had my colours 'done' years ago, and it's made a huge difference.

Just habit with the neutral coats, I suppose ( although, in my defence, French Navy is one of my '100%' colours - I can wear it from head to toe, allegedly.)

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 25/02/2009 23:12

What a coincidence! Never had my colours done but navy is absolutely a great colour on me too I have bought several items recently and was worried I would feel "pedestrian" but when a colour works for you it really illuminates your skin, hair and eye colour so I feel great wearing it.

How about going for a french navy spring coat then? in a great fabric/cut? Navy works fabulously for spring and summer.

Nontoxic · 26/02/2009 08:10

I'm afraid I bought a (neutral) cream mac last autumn intending to use it in spring as well, but I do have a navy linen jacket.

nailpolish · 26/02/2009 08:25

well i have a bright green coat that i wear almost every day and i never think folks are saying "oh shes got that green coat on again"

why buy a boring coat just cos you are going to wear it every day? wont folks think "oh she has that dull boring coat on again"

unless your plan is to fade into the wallpaper

HappyHome · 26/02/2009 09:32

Oh eck! looks like I'm going to have to re- think the spring coat situation....

Do you know, NP (sorry to hijack), I often say that I feel as if I'm invisible!

Maybe I need therapy as well as a new coat!
